Oscars And Convicts.

Depends how big they are and what temperament that have, I wouldn't really like to say as I have had all different amounts in those size tanks "2 - 4 and up to 6, and others would probably say how dare you 5cups of water per fin blah blah.. 20G isn't ideal for a large number don't forget they are very nasty fish even more so when breeding and they do get biggish.

Yh i have seen a fully grown one but thats not that big ... there just started to breed and there where very aggressive to my oscars and jds so i put them in a 20g so i thinking of just having them in the 20g because they look really nice in there... what do u think?

How many have you got in there?

I think Convicts can make a tank on their own, have always liked the convicts best out of all Cichlids, I would think you can get away with about 4 for the moment and a couple of cats, nice rocky tank with some caves would be good.

if i put them in my 6ft with my .. 3 oscars, 2 jds, 2 firemouths ..
could the convicts kill any of the fish

*slaps head*

You need a bigger tank mate. One oscar, one JD, a pair of convicts yep fine. But not so many. Unless you're wanting a huge casualty rate, in which case, get a DVD fish tank

Is this child trolling!??? He is posting some strange stuff. He by the way says his Rams died today and a krib female died a few days ago. He has mentioned several size tanks all over the forum. I think he is trolling, going from forum to forum and posting nonsense.

If I am mistaken, cichlid-mad, I'm sorry.

I have more than 7 tanks but i dont use them as im looking for a bigger tank to get the fish settled in.

3 oscars is a bad idea in any size tank, keep, 1, 2 (only if a proper breeding pair, not just sticking 2 in together) or 6+ in a massive tank

because they are very big messy and agressive fish if you have three then two biggest/most agressive will bully the 'runt' and kill him, then unless they other two have paired off (which is not all that likely) the bigger will bully and kill the other one.

if you really want to keep more than 1 together you must get a group of them all as juvis, 6 or more, then wait for two to pair off (no guarantee's this will happen) then re-home the rest, even then you must still be prepared they could turn on each other and you must re-home them. Keeping O's together is not for the novice or the fainthearted.

however in a 6 foot tank 1 Oscar, a couple of JD's, firemouth's and convicts could work well.

they are all aggressive fish and can be unpredictable so you must be prepapred to re-home fish if there is bullying going on.

:/

Cudos for a very mature response, cichlid-mad. You have a :good: from me.

Just mind your most conservative advice and get your tanks healthy.

ok thanks .. jollysue and convicts, oscars, firemouth and jds dont mix the convicts will kill all them soon or later

^ Not true.. you can probably get those fish together if you do it properly.. just throwing them all in the same tank is not the way to do it..
