just a quick one hoping this might be a normal thing for them but not sure. Basically a few months ago we noticed our just fully grown oscar started acting a bit strange. all he was doing was flaring up his fins and opening his mouth wide. See below
Got told it may be a terretorial thing if we put anything near his tank that he's "claimed" for himself (been told oscars may claim space outside there tank??) or it could be a mating thing maybe if hes feeling a bit broody. By the way im saying he but we dont know the sex weve always just thought he was a boy in our minds lol
Anyway since a few months ago we havnt seen him do it again. Until tonight.....
Tonight he hit "stage 2" as im calling it. not only was he doing the same as last time, flaring fins wide open mouth etc he'd stepped it up a notch. He was rapidly shaking while advancing forward and attacking the glass. Theres a red tailed shark and a big common plec in there by the way but he wasnt even looking at them and hes lived in there with them for months and months so nothings changed there. All he was doing was shaking then attacking the glass a few times then was swimming in circles then back to the previous thing. was so weired to watch
Iv tried giving all info i can on this as the more info the better an explanation i may get last thing as well if this might help weve just recently taken a few of his tank mates out to put them in my new catfish tank iv got. there was 2 synodontis's (euptera and filamentosa) and a humbug catfish. This might not have anything to do with it but you never know it may help
Anyone got any ideas what he was doing. Please tell me this is normal comical oscar behaviour
He's totally normal now and acting fine but if he does it again il get a video to put up
