Hi all,

I 'm finding that the cooling fans for the T5 lights are very noisey! I did hear that you can up grade them with direct replacement fans which should be quieter, could any one advise please?

Also could any one advise on the correct setup for the skimmer in the Orca tl550?
Not sure if I have it set up correctly!

Thank you.

The top of the clear tube should be out of the water, you can adjust the airflow using the little screw thingy on the end. (technical term  ) If you can hook skimmer on the comb part of the back weir then adjust the cup so that it too sits just out of the water that should be fine, sorry its very hard to describe but hope that gives you an Idea.

What makes you think its not set up correctly?

Hi, I think its as it should be then, from what you've described. Its just that its not collecting very much from what people tell me! they say it should be collecting black gunk sort of thing!!!!! mine isn't!
I have 4 fish so not sure whether that would create alot of gunk or not!

Is it making a humming noise and bubbling???

Sort of bubbling! I've got the cup so the water is about half way up the internal funnel, then it forms a few bubbles! about 3/4 of the way up.

Try moving skimmer a bit deeper or putting the cup further down in the skimmer, it might be a bit stiff but a firm twist and push should do it. bubbles should be coming up out of the tea strainer thing in the cup (another technical term  )

you should be getting stuff the colour of weak tea if I'm correct, I haven't been running mine for a few months as it was just pulling out my phytoplankton which was coming out green  Thats why I stopped using it.

Thanks, I'll give that ago..... :good:

Have you by any chance heard of the replacement fans you can get for the orca?
I find mine very noisey!!!

I have just googled 'replacements fans for orca TL 550'

It came up with a few options but I'm really not that technically minded to comment on them Sorry

Hi, I tried that too but it only brings up the standard replacements!
But thank you for looking and your advice. :good:

What voltage and diameter are the standord fans running at? You could replace with some PC cooling fans mebe?

All the best

Yeah, 9 times out of 10 these are plain old 12V DC fans that are easily replaced by computer fans. Just measure the length in MM and find a PC fan that matches that length. Don't go too cheap though, cause if you try and save a couple $$ you may just get another cheap noisy fan ;)
