I use salt in all my tanks as a general tonic and preventative.
50,000 tears doesn't believe in medicating sick fish (there was an extended discussion on another forum when her Gus was sick).
Unfortunately, sometimes sick fish die when they aren't treated. Salt can help healing, but it won't "cure" anything (except ham and leather
) -- and shouldn't kill if it's used properly. Adding a bit of salt to the tank when a fish has been sick for weeks is a case of too little too late.
