So I inherited my dads stand. He had a 40g and it leaked. So there is water damage on the top and one of the legs is out a bit, it wobbles to 1 corner like 1/4'. It also has that water/musty smell to it. I believe it's made of mdf. Work with it or toss it? Would it hold that much?

I'd be using it for a 29g which is slightly overkill.

Here's some pics

I'd sink a few 4 inch screws into it where they can be hidden and it should be plenty strong enough.

If your worried screw a piece of 9mm ply on the back which will hold it all together and act as a diagonal brace too.

If it wobbles in a way that can't be repaired, it is time to build a new stand. Adding layers onto an unstable stand will make you feel better but it won't hold up properly. If you can replace the shorter leg that is making it wobble, the whole story changes. At that point it will no longer wobble and bracing the top becomes a useful thing to do.

My husband didn't trust it.
He built a stand. Just waiting on completion. Tank is assembled sitting on the floor right now.
He said the stand he built could hold a truck! I totally believe it too. LOL. He overbuilds things so pretty happy with that.
