Opinions On My Fish Plan For My Tank?

Hi all, i just bought my first tank and its currently cycling so i've been thinking about what fish to have. Its just under 15 gallons (60 litres).

6-8 Neon Tetra's
4-6 Harlequin Rasboras or Cherry Barbs

That sounds alright?

Side note: January I may upgrade to 24 gallons.

But then theres no variety, and i'm just watching the same fish do the same things?

how about a few cory's to occupy the bottom of the tank? they stay pretty small and are fun to watch. 4 or 5 should do.

Don't worry about that.... you'll get variety all right!

Anyway, each to their own.... There's just something about shoaling behaviour that is magical to watch for me. I wish I had done that for my 60L.

That is a sight I'd like to see. I wonder how many you could put together before multiple schools begin to form... or before they just get sick of seeing so many of the same fish! hahaa

I'd be curious to put 40 neon tetras in a 40 gallon. I would like to see their behavior.

Ok well instead of going 100% Neon Tetra's how about 10-12 and then a couple of other fish (instead of 5-6 of those other fish i suggested)? Any suggestions? Perhaps 1-2 bigger fish to create a sort of contrast, lots of small fish swimming about with 1-2 bigger ones about.

EDIT: There's also the problem of this tank being immature. Most people say Neon Tetra's need a matured tank so i was going to add them last, but if i only have them, or them and 1-2 other fish, i will mostly likely suffer a few or more deaths?

In that case Neons plus a male & female Dwarf Gourami - their interaction & beauty will be a great side-show...

Thanks for the suggestion, though i did a quick google image search and unfortunately, i dont really like them too much, however i may change my mind if iI see them in person. Any other suggestions?

I just though....how about 8 of 2 different kinds of Tera's?

How about some African Dwarf Frogs mixed in with 1 or more of the fish i mentioned?

what about instead of dwarf gourami's (although they are nice) how about red honey gourami's? i have 2 n they gorgeous!

Hey sounds like you don't need advice as your pretty much sorted on what you'd like to add.
but to summarize i'd say go for

6 harlequinns for the top
6 neons for the middle
2 AD frogs for the bottom

You could even go for 4 pentazona barbs with 12 or so neons to through in a little different colour and they are both schooling fish.

You really have a huge amount of options, blue neons also look very cool.
