No it’s pretty normal for any fish in a planted tank ,that’s what plants are forBeg my pardon, this just seems to be unusual behavior.
I was told tiger barbs need a open tankSome overhead shelter (floating plants) and a dark backing on the tank would help the fish feel less exposed.
I don’t have a lightPlants floating on the surface won't cut down the swimming space. They make the fish feel more secure - they don't know there are no birds etc about to eat them - and they diffuse the light.
Natural light it’s near a window, you might think algae is a issue but it’s really notI am curious. How well do your plants grow without a light?
If I add a light now the algae would just explode ,and it’s actually not that hard to see the fishThe window light without an overhead light is likely working here because the plants are Java Ferns which are low light/nutrient requiring due to their slow growthy habit. No tank light does however make observing the fish and aquarium more difficult, at least it did for me when I tried this for a year with one small tank. And algae was more difficult due to varying intensity and duration of natural light. I moved the tank after a year (it was an intentional experiment), replaced the overhead light, and I was more satisfied with this.
Hahaha we don’t have seasons here and ya it’s gets about 30 degrees,we get about 12 hours of sunIn Singapore is the number of daylight hours quite consistent across the seasons?
Also, in summer how hot does the tank get and for how long?
