I am thinking of getting tiger barbs for my 20 gallon just want to hear some though

Cool, but if you are going to have Tiger Barbs have just Tiger Barbs. In your tank put say 15 in it and let them enjoy their lives together. The best Tiger Barb tank I had was around 150 liters and I had a school of 30. They bred and a few of their young survived each time. Tiger Barbs are not community fish and do best by themselves.

Not enough room in the tank for a group of tiger barbs. You want a tank about 3 foot long to keep a group of 10 or more so they don't attack everything.

If you want a barb that looks similar but is peaceful, look for the ruby barb (Puntius nigrofasciata), but again they want some room to swim so 3foot is a better size tank for them.

Cherry barbs (Puntius titteya) and checkered barbs (Puntius oligolepis) are smaller and peaceful and will live in a 2 foot tank.

I think your tank would be fine, Tiger Barbs aren't great swimmers but tend to hang about. I think the 3 foot tank thing is an exaggeration.

I completely agree, 3ft would be good obviously but a 20 gallon would do fin especially since it’s heavily planted

A 20g long should be OK, but you would need to make the tank very open. You also wouldn’t have much stocking options after you add the barbs though.
