I saw some open bottom fish tanks on youtube and I was just wondering what benefits (if any) there is in keeping one.

Here are some points about it that disturbed me:

- It's not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye
- Maintenance looks like it'll be a hassle
- Change in pressure will bother the fish? <- not sure about this one
- No substrate = less beneficial bacteria?

What are your inputs on open bottom fishtanks?

They are an amazing bit of work and nice on the eye but persoanlly I wouldnt bother. As you have said maintenance would be hard and there will always be the risk of all the water gushing out

I think stick to the opening at the top and make the tank as nice as possible.

Image if a fish died in there? How would you get it out?

Idk, that's my question.

I'm sure SOMEONE in this forum has experience with open bottom tanks.
What're the pros/cons?

Suppose you could take the top vertical bit off, but then all the water would go gushing out and any fish in there would get sucked out into the bigger tank. Nightmare, nice though.
