Only 3 Fry

mollies usually have a TON of babies. they probably were eaten before you noticed them. that, and she won't have them all at once, it happens over a number of hours.

i had them in a breeding net and it's been a few hours :S

Sometimes livebearers can take quite a few hours to finish having their fry. You should be able to tell by her abdomen. She should look pretty skinny and depleted if she's done giving birth.

When I got up yesterday morning, I spotted a couple of new born guppy fry in my tank. I quickly identified the mother as a large red tail who'd been getting bigger by the second. I carefully put her in a breeding net and left her there all day. She birthed well over 30 fry in the net. Last night before bed, I released her back into the tank. Bad idea! She wasn't done. I was rescuing tiny fry with a fish net late last night. She had at least ten more! I was seriously thinking a second female must also have been birthing yesterday, but nope. They're all still the same size as they were. She was just a realllllllly pregnant guppy who took 15+ hours to give birth.

well i waited til about 8 tonight then released her into the tank and there still was only three, anyone have an idea why, she was in the breeding net for two days before any fry!!! :(

Yes I've read that mollies can get stressed out a lot more easier than other livebearers in breeding nets.

It's best to put her in a breeding tank instead.

She may have eaten some of the fry. My mollies will eat all of them in a breeder net, since there's no hiding place for the fry. Those silly little plants that come with net breeders are not much help. I use one of those floating breeder boxes so that the fry can drop into the lower level away from mama.

my breeder net has one of these that fry can drop into the bottom i just don't know why she only had three :-(

Is she very young? If you are sure you got her into the breeding trap before she began, I'm out of ideas. I usually only save between 6 and 20 fry per birth, my females are pretty young.

i have no idea how young she is i got her at the pet store about 5 months ago, what is old, do you think that could be the reason why theres only three, and how long will it be til she has more fry? it was about 1 1/2 weeks ago when she had the babies. but my breeders net fell off the side of my tank and babies got eatin :-(

Thanks cassandra
