Hey all

Lots of people seem to get corydoras online, but i've noticed they are American. Where in the UK can you order cories from? And is it really that safe, don't they get stressed or die?

Thanks

Just remember most or all Corydoras in the LFS were import either to USA or UK from S. America [Some may tanks raise] so they have been travel for long distance and sure they are lost of fish during transportation. Some cory do better than other.

So mail order should not be a problem if the fish are health, well packing and the method of shiping.

i buy some of mine online and i also breed alot and ship them out.

never had one DOA that i have sent, but had a couple DOA on arrival to me. Make sure the person you are buying from will offer some kind of returns policy.

Watch out for people on ebay as well. There was one guy not so long ago selling C21 and other different types at £4.99. Some of these were not worth that much and when you add on some of the expensive postage costs as well, its cheaper to sit and wait.

If you find somewhere, then post it on here and we can have a look for you :)

Most of the hard to find or Rare Cory are usually in mail order. The LFS always got usual Cory Aeneus, Trilineatus, Paleatus sometime Panda or Sterbai. Except the Excotic fish shop.

Most mail order they are direct import from Source Country and usually some risk of losing during shiping, due to stress.

I do like wild caught Cory than Tank raise, sometime will see odd fish mixed in it. :fish:

Thanks everyone

Really?

I would of thought it the other way round. Wild caught corys have been captured from there free natural habitat and shipped to us, so we can have them in our tiny tanks.

IMO i think that i would prefer tank bred cories. I know at one point they were taken from the wild, but i don't see the point ruining a cories life just becasue they are better in someway than a tank bred cory.

Why do you prefer wild caught cories?

I do like them because, I believed that the strains from the wild are stronger and not a bottle neck like tank raise due to inbread over and over. But the down side of Wild Caught are maybe have internal infection cause by exposed the nature enviroment and carring to the fish tank.

This from my points of veiw, but someone else may not agree with :dunno: .

Thank you

Agree with you totally, although there are meds to treat internal parasites, so that shouldnt be a problem

That's why we quarantine all fish for 60-90 days before they are released for sale. This way we can medicate them as well as fatten them up so when either the shop or individual receives them they are robust and healthy which helps insure that issues such as this don't arise. :hey:

I have had most of my BetterBettas Cories for over a year. I have never had any issues with parasites or any other infestation or infection with Bryan's fish. They are the highest quality.

Bryan mentioned that he can ship to the UK. PM him.

I think it refers to the lack of new blood in a tank so there is lots of inbreeding, unless the breeder takes care to infuse new blood from another source. It is seen very dramatically in some fish. Most clown loach keepers can tell the wild caught clown loach from the regularity of their stripes compared to the degradation of the stripes on the tank bred ones.

Hope I didn't steal your thunder, pc. :hey:

I saw a post some time back from Inchworm asking Bryan if his bronze were wild caught. I thought at the time, "Maybe she wants to infuse her cories with some new/wild blood."

While I think there is cross breeding in the wild, I am guessing that the lps fish that are bought from locals are often hybrids and the lineage is questionable. I know when I take my C. aeneus to the lps; they are all from one group with no bronze from another source, they were purchased from the lps, and I didn't ask at the time about their source; they have been breeding in a tank with other species. So their lineage is truely in doubt.

These are all things that must eventually be considered when one starts to breed. That is why I have gone to the trouble of seeking a second source for my albino long fin peppers--to strengthen the line that I would offer. I really am a newbe at the breeding thing. I raised my first fry last winter, but I have just started to take it a bit more seriously.
