I don't know what makes you feel that you've got the right to go and tell people how to their jobs properly. They're doing what's been done that goes back years, most of them just doing their job how they've been taught. Then some jumped up #### comes in and tricks them into giving so-called wrong advice.

I would seriously consider your tactics on this one, why not arrange to go in for a chat and explain it them and see if they'd be interested. They're not going to take any notice of you doing what you're doing.

Hey dumbass, read the friggin thread from start...

The lfs i go in to i give every chance to point me in to the right direction, i ask about diffrent ways to cycle and they talk crap to me so i tell them straight..

If you don tlike it, go play with your local traffic..

And for the ram my head in to a pirahna tank... You wouldnt have the balls, you would be floored before you touched me.

LFS are always giving out bad advice, and if i wish to try to put them straight and help the future of people getting in to the hobby, thats up to me, it wont change your life cos obviously your a complete muppet anyways, but it may help someone down the line.

you can teach old dogs,new tricks,some of the LFS are going to be geuinley interested in the fishless cycle... obviously others will be set in the`re ways, but there wouldnt be any harm at all in those ones putting a few leaflets on the counter,reading up,and stocking bottles of ammonia,on the other hand you do have customers that want to buy a tank and put the fish in the same day.. i cant really imagine a lfs owner telling them " no u can`t do that for these reasons".. that for one, wouldnt make business sense ,and lets face it thats what they are,Yes they are full of bad advice, im the first to agree with that,i wont go to the LFS that i started with and loved anymore cos i think his morals stink,but if i was an LFS owner and someone came in trying to tell me that what i have been doing with "sucess"( i use that word lightly) for 10+ years was bang out of order, then i would be tempted to press my own stubborn switch and stick to my guns just to hack them off!... im not in anyway saying what you have done or how you have done it is wrong,infact i think its comendable(sp?) and i wouldnt have the bottle to do it! but some business owners are believe it or not in it for the money.

Ok. mabey i dont agree with the french... But yeah, it IS the fish shops choice on how they do their job. Okay, you can go in and be nice. Ask for a chat and tell them about the method, rather than going in on a sting.

tbh i dont think this is going to work simply due to the fact that they are running the shop to make money. Fair enough they could make more money in the furture but thats not a risk they are willing to take. When i was setting up my 380 i was talking to this one guy who explained EVERYTHING about a cycle yet he still suggested i "started it off" with platties. So i mentioned about reading the fishless cycle with ammonia and he said he had heard about it but most people dont like doing it because they dont want to wait for so long.

It really pains me to say this but at the end of the day if a fish store starting suggesting to do a fishless cycle they would loose ALOT of money.

At the same time though 5teady i really hope they will take your advise, even if its just 1 out of 100 at least you will have made some sort of change!

Not quite the same but if im ever in P@H for food or something i'll always pop over to the fish and have a look around. The "expert" there is a muppet and always over hear (maybe because im trying to ) him telling people some god awful advise!! Tried selling somebody one clown loach last time i was there to a 10 gal tank! so i came over to butt in and explained to the customer about how big they grow/need to be in groups ect. Turns out it was a brand new tank that they were gonna buy from there at the same time. The muppet had left to get his manager and i was still there talking to these people. In the end i offered them some mature media from my tank to help them set off, so took their number and arranged it from there. Anyway the manager came over and asked what i was doing, so i explained how he was giving wrong advise to customers. He pulled me to one side and said he doesnt really care what advise he gives as long as he makes a sale

That was the point where i flipped off into a rant and got banned

So this shop has 3 knowledgable staff and they are busy and the trainee answers the phone and gives poor advice ...................ah well
