Omg!

I had a reply they said:

Hi,

We can assure you that all housemates are in a exellent living enviroment

I got a reply saying:

Dear Matthew,
We are sorry for the delayed response.
Thank you for your e-mail concerning the Goldfish in the Big Brother house.
The fish were purchased from a reputable pet shop and full guidelines on their care has been given to the housemates. We have also instructed thehousemates that the water in the tank needs to be changed every few days and they have been provided with oxygenating tablets and water neutraliser, again with full details of use, in order to ensure the quality of the water the fish are living in. We can assure you that all necessary instruction has been passed on toensure the health and continued well-being of the goldfish. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

which is, honestly, a load of crap.

a reputable fish shop wouldnt sell goldifsh to put in a bowl like that!

I got exactly the same response from old Gilbert as you did Esfa, with the addition of:

"May we also advise you that Channel 4 do not make the programmes we transmit
but commission or purchase them from independent production companies and
distributors. "

This is probably because I asked them if they were comfortable perpetuating the mistreatment of fish, and if broadcasting animal cruelty was against their mission statement. I know that was very melodramatic of me, but we don't often get such a high profile chance to change people's preconceptions do we. I must admit that before I kept fish, I thought keeping goldfish in bowls was pretty standard.

But to be honest fish DO get air from the surface sometimes. What you said was "gasping for air at the surface" was about 5-10 seconds, not 5 minutes.

i didnt say 5 mins, i have goldfish and the only time they break the surface is when they are eating or the airstone is off (or filter for some reason)
i assume that was meant for me :)
shelagh xxx

sure i cant remember who said it. but most people keep goldfish like this.. even worse in some cases.

im sorry but some people on this forum just moan and moan and moa.... BLAH!

oh get a grip!!! its a discussion thats what people can do, should they wish to... you almost sound like you condone the way the fish are being kept

yeah, people like to complain on here.......... It's nothing new really.

Also I would like to point out that these shows are normally filmed in advance. So what you are seeing on the TV most likely happened at least a couple months ago. Goldfish should not be kept in bowls, but it's a little late at this stage.

But lets all continue as we were :D.

I HATE all reality shows with a passion!

Lies its a reality TV show that is filmed the day before and the best bits are shown the next day, or you can watch it all day LIVE...
