. Doesnt look dyed. They done the same with a swordtail too i believe as i saw some very similar ones in my lfs. As for people being retards in the LFS, quite a few are unfortunately. real life examples include:
There was a fish with cotton wool disease. I asked the person what it was. Reply:
"Its a sheep fish"
**my thoughts = WTH LADY, do i look 10? (OK i was 15)**
"are angels suitable for the community tank with fish including neons"
"Yup, they live together in the wild happily" (Ok 1/2 true they do live together but the angels actually eat them)
(fortunately my tank wasnt suitable for angels)
"Can i have 3 female guppies and 1 male guppy please"
"Here you go"
"Err babes, fisrtly they are just ugly coloured platys and secondly you gave me 3 males and 2 females"
"How often should i feed my fish"
"4 times a day"
Next week i go back and ask the same question
"We only feed our fish twice a week"
**well thats a cleaver thing to do isnt it!**
"Do you sell a nitrite testing kit"
"Whats that?"
**Right, and do you know what a partial water change is?**
"OOH whats that" <--- Me
"A chinese algae eater"
"Is it good for the community tank"
"Perfect"
5 months later and 3 times the size, "WTH YOU JUST KILLED EVERY SWORDTAIL IN MY TANK!"
Sign saying:"All of our plants have been treated against snails." (or something like that)
err dude, i can see 20 stuck to the glass.
These are examples of questions and answers me and my cousin have asked. He works in maidenhead aquatics so most of those questions asked are from him lol. He only answers questions that he knows the answer to tho.
Saying that my new lfs is pretty damn good. Very cheap and the guy knows a fair bit and only advises on stuff he knows.
Now you two, no fighting, have a chuckle lol.

Chill out people, it's just a fish. Don't make me close a topic in my clean-record forum. 
Hazza - I think Dakota was just suggesting that you probably shouldn't take too much advice from that LFS...I'd personally have to agree, if they told you it was a cross between a Tiger Barb and a Platy.

tiger platies can be made in 2 ways.
1. dye an albino/white/creamsicle/peppermint platy
2. cross a tuxedo platy with a koi swordtail and hopefully you get the tiger pattern.
Koi swordtail aren't rare. I can get tons of them at my LFS. Tiger platys aren't rare eaither as they are a crossbreed color morph. They may be rare in the UK, but they are overabundant and people don't want them here in the US
