I am almost ashamed to say that I don't know but I am sure someone here can tell me! He is a beautiful colour though - looks blue here but is purple in most light

did you buy him from a lfs or a breeder. most bettas sold at lfs are vails or crowns. crowns are normally a doller or two more then a vail.

he is a beautiful beautiful fish, and it looks like you did your research before buying him because that is a beautiful home you have there for him too. he is a lucky little fish.

Aww thank you I hope he will be happy in it! I bought him from my local LFS on a whim after he caught my eye in passing

love the colour.. and he looks like a damaged VT to me.. and most bettas brought from LFS have some sort of fin damage.. my Miagi was in baaad shape fin wise when i got him, but he's fully healed and looks wicked now

It doesn't really look like finrot, that usually has either black or white edges with red tips on the rays and the fish will act sick. He looks like he'll be a combtail veiltail when he heals up but he's got some damage, probably from a fight or else from finrot that has started to heal.

I think he's a VT.

It looks like it has had some fin rot problems.. Be sure to keep the water clean and it should heal up.

Yes, he is lovely even if he is a bit damaged...nothing a little clean water won't fix.
