Omg I Could Cry Everything Dead! :-(

Really sorry to hear this mate.

Finding one fish dead is gutting enough, but the whole lot......well, it's beyond words.

Maybe sort the water out in the tank & then move some fish from another tank into this one, so it doesn't look empty.
Might help ease your mind off it a bit.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

All the best,

Pete

There is the possiblity that the zuccini was soaked in poison. Did you wash it first?

This is a really good point...some vegetables can have pesticides and all sorts of nasty things on them that are bound to do terrible things if put in a tank. Since you said that you prepared it the same way you always do I'll assume you usually wash it first, but maybe it slipped your mind or something? :/

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm suspecting. Was there anything else odd about your aquarium? Something similar happened to me once, they were fine in the morning, I came home in the afternoon and they were just dead. Ammonia levels were extremely high.

Thanks everyone!
Nothing changed in the aquarium, recently no fish been added for ages.
heater filters all working normally.
i find it strannge to be the veg as well cos i have also left it in for a couple of days before no problems.
bought it from asda as i normally do.
i just dont understand it.
and so quickly as well,

Well, in 40 years of fishkeeping, I've learnt that this sort of thing is inherent of the hobby and have experienced it myself before.... you cannot put your finger on the source, and it is irreversable.... then you start blaming yourself for it.....

Sorry about the losses, I know it is devastating..... but do not blame yourself. It has happened and affords you the opportunity to start from scratch.... Crude as it may sound.

Thats crap buddy! I lost all my discus and L plecs over a year ago when my filter stopped working during the night and i never noticed until coming home from work the next day. Gutted for you.

Thats unfortunate and I dont know how that happened cos it shouldnt. I once turned my external filter off for a water change on my 4 foot fully stocked tank and forgot to turn it on for a whole 24 hours before I realised it and I didnt even get a blip in my water stats!

I dont think it was the veg polluting the water either unless it had some sort of highly toxic poison on it - even then its hard to see why such a small veg in a large tank would kill everyhting outright. I wouldnt have thought something as toxic as that wouldnt be allowed to be sold! I always peel my courgettes as my plecs leave the skin anyway.

cheers mate.
yes dont think ill ever find out what happened truly.

i dont think it was the veg either i just cant believe everything died just over night. crazy!
suppose just look ahead and now what to do with the tank hmmmmm?????

Sorry to hear about your losses.

Keith.

Even though you said you got the zuchini from your usual source most shops get in stocks from many suppliers from literally all over the world and a possible different supplier may have treated (after picking) the zuchini with something to stop either insect pests (eg. fruit fly) or a copper based chemical to prevent fungi/ mould developing on the zuchini. I am always weary of any "fresh" fruit and veg if it doesn't state where it originated from. In Australia we are swamped every year with cheaper fruit and veg often from many parts of of the world and these other countries usually have different health code standards. In fact walking through my local supermarkets fruit and veg section is like doing a world tour...oranges from America, cherries from china. I guess I'm lucky that at least in Australia by law the shop has to state where the produce came from and I can make my choices on what I'll risk purchasing. I know it doesn't help with the actual loss of all your fish ( I would hate to lose all my Cory's etc like that) but it might help explain the possible poisoning of your tanks system.
Condolances

A lot of pesticides have a cummulative effect where they go into the body through eating but are not excreted. Next time some is eaten, it adds to that level until the fatal level is reached.

Unlikely that it's built up over time though as different fish would survive different levels and all yours went at once. Certainly sounds like something nasty was on that courgette.

I doubt you'll get to the bottom of it, but I'm really sorry for you. It upsets me when a guppy dies! I'd be gutted if any of my favourite fish died

Thanks everybody its much appreciated!!
Dont think ill ever find out what happened for fish to be fine then die over night just 8-10hours later. crazy.it was my main display tank with my best fish as well.
So im now starting a new tank up.
starting with some amazing wild apisto sp pebas , wild rams, and wild apisto eunotus?

I'm so sorry about your Major Loss. Had you done a Major water change before the death's? Only asking as just recently I lost a good deal of fish and so did our local pet shop. The pet shop owner and I compared notes and could not fathom what had happened. We could only assume it was something to do with the water supply, even though we both use de-clor. Feel free to cry, god knows what I would do if I lost my lot in the 4ft.
