Okay just cleaned out my planted tank of all the EXTRA vaillies and omfg 200+ vallies I have to give away now.....
after I was done I noticed something strange in my tank.... only 3 discus
unsure.gif

I had 4 for the longest time and I swear 2-3 days ago there where 4 in the tank... I can't find that discus my cobalt blue one anywhere

I checked all around my tank and checked in my tank and I can't find it the fish is gone(Think it eaither jumped out and the dog eat it or the power did go out 2 days ago really being 1 day ago cause didn't get back home until late and the fish died because of it being cold and my partner just put it in the garbage and said nothing to me hmm... what a mystery)

Well I know I don't tend to my tank anymore unless its plant issues as in the algue my partner is making me clean (BBA)
I am taking it this fish is gone and so expensive to replace IM not sure what to do now.... 3 big discus and to replace 1 could cost about $100 for the size mine are and not sure if 2 babies will survive. Im thinking of selling these fish and hoping i get about 150 for them to just get rid of them. But what other options I have for having cichlids that are colourful looking in the blue colour that would go good in a planted tank(Really thick planted tank)Ph is 6.5 during the day and reaching about 7 at night. Looking for something that doesn't require alot of maintence like discus do, as it is now i don't get much time to tend to my tank, I have school(college, university)a disability that hinders me on doing maintence(can't lift buckets with water) my partner works nights and sleeps during the day. I don't want to get rid of the tank just looking at maybe changing the stock thats in it. I still love my planted tank

Sorry to hear about your missing fish.

If you were to get rid of your discus, and you wanted something blue, you could look at Electric blue rams, who would almost certainly thrive in your water conditions. I'm guessing your water is also rather soft, as it is acidic ?

As you are asking in the NW cichlid section I guess you are looking at NW cichlids. I would also consider sajica cichlids, thorichthys ellioti, german blue rams or bolivian rams. None of these should be great diggers or significantly eat your plants. They are not hugely blue in colour, although all are lovely in their own way.
I assume you are talking about the 55g in your sig. If so, you could have two different pairs. With plenty of cover and hiding places, any aggression should be fairly limited. Each pair should probably also mop up any fry from the other pair, so you shouldn't end up with masses of young ones.
I was also thinking of suggesting rainbow cichlids. However, these are real plant eaters and therefore not really what you are looking for.

Okay...
This morning I went to the tank lights turned on as usual and he is definitly gone! :(

Got kids ready for work, picked up wify and told her about it and she chewed my head off :(
Got home and yup he gone was double checked by the kids and I and the wify well still have to feed them so did so
and to my surprize it jumped out of the water for food O.O .... where did he come from I trimed so much of my tank yesterday its not hard to miss something that big O.O

About the stocking not sure, cause thaught I would have to sell because of the price to replace these can be very expensive he was estimated at about 100 and I do only have 4 and with 3 just can't have 3 aggresion gets to wild and will eventually lead to them killing each other. and to properly replace 1 would have to get 2 so would be looking at about 200+(I guess putting 2 babies in at 2.5 maybe 3" would be a gamble). Well happy he is alive although I still cant figure where he was hidding O.O its weird.

To your reply I don't know the difference between new and old world cichlids to be honest(Blue red and white I like seeing in a planted tank for fish wise)the Only fish I know really anything about besides discus is the blue mbuna i think its a Demo something a really weird scientific name but its a rock dweller. Although I do have a 40gal(US) tank I was thinking of setting up for them but not sure yet need to find rocks erm... I guess all is good now the discus showed up thank god!

(BTW ya my water is acidic due to the co2) for some reason any kind of fish I add to the tank I always have to add late at night when the PH is at about 7 or else they due this weird swirl thing in the tank even after acclimating them, and they look like they are dead for about 4 hours. I think its cause my local fish store fish are at 7.5 for ph and our KH is massivly different. So they get KH shocked. Discus, Tetris, Cardinals, any fish do it in that tank and still not sure why.
