have a 20 gal (more of a deep one than a long one), and i just can't decide how to stock it. i thought of moving my mollies and cories in there and getting more, and adding a clown pleco (i really want a zebra, but they cost more than the tank did, if i'm going to spend that much on a fish, its going in a larger tank where the water parameters are more forgiving and stable). i toyed with the idea of tiger barbs. i looked into kribs, rams, apistos. i considered small african cichlids and shell dwellers. i even thought about a second puffer tank (but i decided petey and paula were enough for now). :dunno: i'm all about species specific or habitat specific tanks (fish from the same area of the world) or close to it, and fish with personality and individuality. i want activity on all levels of the tank. i really want an albino rainbow shark but not sure if theres room, and i definitely want a four inch plec. i just really can't decide what to stock my tank with. maybe i just have too high of expectations, i don't know.

any stocking suggestions/combinations welcome, i will consider them all. maybe someone will post the perfect tank for me and it will inspire a final decision. :p

thanks! :D

Hi Many_A_Molly :)

Why not try a few different kinds of corys. Pandas are great, and since you like them, there are so many different corys to choose from that it would be a shame not to try some others, too. The bronze cory, perhaps the most common, is a fine fellow and, I find, more active than the pandas who tend to be shy.

Gouramis, are good top dwellers and come in many attractive colors. Or, depending on which mid-level fish you choose, a betta might be a good addition.

In between, there's lots of room for a small school of glowlight tetras, which are small and colorful. If you are looking for an active fish, that is a bit unique, you might want to look into getting a few blind cave tetras. Or, also unique, but sometimes a little tricky, is the glass catfish:

Ohhhh.......so many possibilities!

I'm sure that stocking a new tank isn't the only problem you have, Many_A_Molly, but it's probably the one that will make you the happiest once it is resolved!

oh, you can never have too many cories. was going to get some more reticulated or at least some spotted orjuliis to go with my current reticulated (since he doens't interact or school with the smaller pandas he's currently with, was going to move him in if i could).

Molly, how about a few angelfish? They look nice in the taller tanks and you could still have bottom dwellers with not problems...even add some zebra danios for middle of the tank activity

Apistogramma!
This tank is crying out for some South Americans with attitiude!!
Visit Apistogramma.com and be amazed at the colours of these little guys. They have most of the charm of angels and can be bred in a 20g.
Definitely have a look before you decide, I cant recommend them enough.

Ken

good suggestions so far. keep them coming

how many angels would fit in a 20 gal? (24 inch long, 12 inch wide, 14 inch deep approx)

None! Angels need a minimum tank size of 36"x12x18 (LxWxD) IMO and only one pair in a tank that size.
