Oddballs & Predators

lol I don't have many oddballs right now, but i've had almost 75 percent of the fish that have already been posted.

As for the red eyed puffers up on the second post, very nice, I had one but boy was that sucker mean.

My old stingray "Potamotrygon reticulatus".

My old breeding pair of needlenose fish. The dark male in the back is still alive today, and it's about 4 years old.

One of my Senegals...and yes it's going through a fungus stage after jumping out.

Really bad pic of my other senegal, albino. Both bichirs are lije 2-3 years old.

My favorite fish.

Those are all the pics I have uploaded at the moment. Most of the oddballs I kept were in my tanks years ago, and I had a really bad camera at that time. If I go up to an lfs on Saturday i'm going to be getting a shortnose gar, etc. though, lots of oddballs.
nice fish :good:
i am surprised you managed to breed needlefish

Well, I'd be realistic. There are 100s of these fish offered in stores, and lets face it, most of them will go in 20g longs, probably contract whitespot and die (that's life).

My LFS recently got a few :( :( And last time i checked they were in tiny little 60cm in length tanks..

I don't understand why LFS would order them in, becasue if someone wanted a MBU puffer then they would do they're research into where to find one and order one in for them. The puffers must have to spend ages in those tiny tanks before anyone buys them :(

The average person isn't going to be able to keep one puffer, and this shop has 3 if them.

that's what I say about aro's, gars, various puffers, and fish like that. Why stock them when somebody who would want one will ask them to order one specially, though you'd think it would cost a lot to feed them with all the feeder fish for months on end before somebody buys it, must be something with economics :dunno:

Hi nice fish. I have a question though, like said earlier in this thread I will be setting up a tank with the same kind of stingray as you a Potamotrygon reticulatus. I noticed that the substrate you have is black. Is it just black gravel? And when the ray was on top of the gravel could you see it good or did the ray blend in with the black substrate? The reason that I'm asking is because I bought black gravel for my new tank and I was debating if I should put the black gravel in or put it in another tank and go with sand. Thanks. :good:

Some real good looking fish here! Keep the pics coming, I enjoyed them! :good:

nice vid cane, and beautiful fish. You certainly keep your tank well airated

Cool video! :good:

Do the fish like all those bubbles like that? I'm sure they get plently of oxygen though :)

Well done!

Btw, how long until the next big tank gets set-up?

thx mate
most of the fish are bottom dwellers so i dont think it makes much difference to them.
i do know the gar and aro love it they are allways swimming in the fast flowing water.
i still need a few things before the big tanks ready but it wont be long now :good:

Great vid cane :good:
I cant get hold of river shrimp up here, no where seems to have them or get them...How much are yours, and how many do you get, cos i can get algea shrimps and things, but they are £2.50 each, so not for feeder use.
How long do they stay alive for, when not in the tank i mean

Thanks, Mikey

Normally you just ask the staff if they do them, and they're go round the back and get some for you. At my LFS they sell them in portions and its like 2.50 a portion. But i've forgotten how many shrimp you get, i think its like 12 per portion at my LFS.

river shrimp at my lfs are 20 for a pound ,they save my a tenners worth every week but they allways do me loads for that
they dont last long even if they have a tank for just them, maybe one or two days tops,i just chuck em all in at once and they are gone in 5 minutes
