Oak Leaves In Aquariums

Is that safe for the fish or will it make your water softer or harder or something?

It's safe for fish from softer waters; it should make the water softer. I need to get some more bogwood for the tannins.

I was noticing the nice tannin colored water in a container outside that had oak leaves in it. I did water testing, amonia, nitrites, nitrates were all zero. I checked the ph and it was a lovely 6.8 - a 7.0. Since my water ph is naturally very high 8.4 or higher if possible and I do not want to use chemicals out of a bottle, I will be adding dry oak leaves to the tank too. Wonderful present of nature!
