O.K, something is SERIOUSLY wrong.

the red stuff is dead algae..call your local water department and ask about it...turn your tank temp down a bit if you can, it won't hurt your fish yet, keep up the water changes. The reason I know this...there's a widespread problem with red algea...EVERYWHERE in the world because of global warming. YOu might want to have your tap water professionally tested. YOu can buy stuff at the fish store(not a chain store) to remove it but I can't think of the name just now. Your pleco will most likely be the first one to get sick so keep an eye on him.

AND you can too keep goldfish with tropicals..the main problem with goldfish is that they are dirty fish. My first tank was a 15 gallo...with 2 black tetras, 1 redtail shark, 2 swords a pleco, a calico cory, and 1 goldfish and they lived together for over a year untill the goldfish got too big. Oh yeah and my puffer had a tank buddy who for some reason he wouldn't eat for 6 months by the time he got around to eating it , it was too big for him to eat.. Yes he ate other goldfish but not his buddy(wierd creature)

after you do your water change, go to your LOCAL fish room..do not go to a chain store. and they will help you with the popeye problem, maracyn I think is the name of the stuff

CommanderDoom, not to sound harsh, but i'd return all your fish until you get everything settled. stop being so damn touchy when people tell you stuff. we're trying to help, we don't need you leaping down our throats when we tell you things!

first, return fishies. second, do a complete water change and clean up everything that may still have the red stuff. third, refill the tank and dechlorinate it. fourth, CYCLE it properly. fifth, add new fishies, proper fishies.

and stop jumping on people.

Sorry it had to be done. :D

O.k, did water change. Just like magic, the red is mostly gone. JUST LIKE THAT!!!!! Wow.

Second. The goldfish are going. My mom absolutely REFUSES to let me give them all away. I dunno, she has issues. The goldfish are the only thing that can go. However, my goldfish still has pop eye. I keeps putting meds in and they do absolutely no good. nothing is working. Maybe the LfS will take my fish back if it has pop eye. I will ask them. For more info, go to my other post.

try and explain to your mom that the fish will either go back to the store or die horrible deaths, and that the Pop-Eye is just the beginning. get pictures of Flex, Velvet, Ich, Fin Rot, internal parasite infections, Black Spot, cysts, anything nasty and fishie-disease like, and show it to her. tell her if the fish stay there they'll probably die because of such high levels of chemicals in their tank. it's better for you and the fish; you won't need to scoop dead bodies out, the fish won't need to die. when cycled, you can stack a whole lotta fish in a 10g!

as for Pop-Eye, i had a Betta with it. he developed in in less than twelve hours, and twenty four hours later he started spiraling. the meds might be putting off the toxicity and spreading of the disease, but i think it'll take a long time for it to subside. pet stores do not want their stock contaminated with any disease, unless they make it it seems.

I agree with beta boyz kinda...You could however with small fish like that, take a new clean bucket( I mean never touched with chemicals) fill it with PROPERLY treated water and get it to a decent warm temperature like the same as your tank. Net your little guys and put them in the bucket. Then take syphon your tank to almost empty. If you have a garden hose, take your tank out back and flush it out. To clean ALL of the red stuff out. TO flush the gravel just crank the water pressure up and direct the hoseinto the gravel Fill it a quarter of the way up and dump it..do this a couple of times..do not use anything but water. Then put your tank back in its place...refill it with PROPERLY treated water at room temp out of the tap, like luke warm..you know what I mean. Leave enough room for your bucket of fish and water though. Then take your bucket of fish and dump them in. Yes some will say this will stress the fish..blaablaablaaa..You ever tried treating hole in head???? Or of course you could TRY to take the ailing fish back to the store which will cause just as much stress if not more and kill them anyway, or ya could just flush em and tell your mom that the boogy man stole em...lol

Hi comm, do u use charcoal in ur filters, if so, u need to remove it when u put the meds in.The charcoal will absorb the meds.

It's been a while since I replied here. The red has been taken care of. However, with the nitrate and ammonia, it is waaaay to high to treat with fish in it. I am simply gonna dump all the water, ALL OF IT, clean the filter, replace the gravel, the works. Then I will refill it and cycle it while I treat the other fish in CLEAN water that will actually allow the meds to work. Until then, WATER CHANGES!!!!!!!

By the way, should I get natural colored gravel, blue gravel, or black gravel? My favorite color is black but I also like blue.
