It looks as if the aquarium is lighted red. However, it does this even when the lights are off so it isn't the light. The walls are algea free and the water is clear. I JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!!

I can't explain why it looks red, but the fish you have listed in your 10G are not compatable. Goldfish are coldwater fish and platy & pleco are tropical fish that require a heater. Also most pleco species can grow to over 20 inches. Can you return the goldfish to your local fish store or put them in a bowl and go tropical?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I KNOW TROPICAL FISH AND GOLDFISH AREN'T COMPATIBLE!!!!!!!! I WAS TOLD THIS 50 THOUSAND TIMES!!!!! I GET THE PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *gasping for breath*

I fed the fish the same food since 2 years ago. I used some chlorine remover the day before also. As seen on an earlier post, yesterday the water was orange. NOW IT'S RED!!!!! Or at least, it looks as if it is illuminated red.

Have you put any new bogwood in your tank? that can colour the water.

David :fish:

ps moes just trying to help this is a forum :grr: :grr:

No, I didn't add bog wood.

Yes I changed the water. No difference.

Yes, I know moe is helping out on the forum. Sorry Moe. But I simply hear, "can't put tropicals with goldfish" "Take the goldfish out" "tropicals and goldys don't go together" I have heard this millions of times now. MILLIONS OF TIMES!!!!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHH!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! I'M INSANE I'M INSANE!!!!! HOO HOO HOO HOO HEE HEE HEE HEE!!!! WAAAAAA HOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, if you have already been told that goldfish and tropicals don't mix millions of times before, why haven't you done something about it?

you have got two of the messiest fish that exist together in a relatively small tank together, maybe this isn't the cause of your problems but it probably isn't helping.i mean of course the goldfish and the plecs.which aren't meant to go together by the way!!!

maybe someone has put a red bulb in a streetlight outside or something.

or it could be the light on the heater telling you that its on.

RE: commanderdooms various post is it possible that we're being jerked around? :dunno:
Look at his water qualilty in his other post I'm amazed that his fish are still alive.
Also look at some of his other posts, slightly strange IMO or perhaps he's got a strange sense of humour. :S

If I've got the wrong idea I apologise

Wuh? Those big phrases confuse me.

It' ain't the heater, I know what the heater looks like. The whole tank is red.

It aint a red bulb. It does it day and night even when the light is off or on.

I can't do anything about the fish because
A. Goldfish one has a really bad case of pop eye, I am STILL sticking medication in the tank for him. I have never had to treat the fish for so long.

B. My mom refuses to let me get rid of the other goldfish. Don't ask me why.

Jeeze if you're going to yell take it somewhere else. Not our fault you didn't listen to the LFS. I would never put Goldfish and tropicals together....I mean Goldfish emit so much ammonia anyways that that alone will kill your platies.

Anyways, no need to yell...YOur water is red probably because of either your food (you may be over feeding and what is left is lingering at the bottom of the tank) and the filter may not be filtering correctly....

You didn't pour kool-aid in the tank did you???  Just kidding you know...

Unfortunatly, they ARE right.

However, considering most of you live out of the house or are making an income or can atleast drive, moving fish is a bit more difficult. I have had a simmilar situation and have been told to do this do that dozens of times. And alot of the times, it just isnt an option.

I find myself agreeing. I mean I have NEVER heard of water turning red....There is no medicative chemical that Iknow of that can turn it even remotely red...orange yes, but red? I don't think so. Sorry if I am being a b@$%^ here, but if someone is THAT ignorant to put PLATIES and GOLDFISH in the same tank, they do not need to be asking for help in regards to their well-being. Now I could understand someone totally new to fishkeeping asking this question...But I see this person must have SOME sort of knowlege.....I mean come on......
