Nutrafin Co2 Basic User Guide

How many bubbles do I want for a 20 gallon tank? The suction cups on the diffuser stopped working so it's just the hose sticking in the bottom of the tank until I can get a new one.

Also, they say heat plays a part in how fast the bubbles come out, but how do you control the temp inside the canister? Mine hangs on the back of the tank. Apart from the water temp when I fill it, I don't have a way to control the heat.........though it always seemed to do fine. Again, how many bubbles is desired in what amount of time frame for my 20 gallon?

Best place to situate these devices? in relation to your plants?

I have 2 x systems running together, do people advise to use 2 x canisters into one defuser/ladder or 2 x separate individual devices?

Ive just set mine up. After many attempts with the Nutrafin kits that are supplied with the unit all of which failed. I used this method, and in 5 minutes I have more bubbles per minute, than I had in 4 days.. Many thanks. :good:

Must admit, bought the stuff that came with the pack and bought 4 boxes for spares, not one bubble over 24 hours!
Used the 'George Farmer' - patent pending and had bubbles within minutes, now got a steady flow with plants perking up already within days!

Thanks guys!

Sorry but I can't understand all the problems people are having with the nutrafin product, I popped in the sugar, packets and topped up with warm water & both my ladders have bubbles galore!

I did add a small amount of bread yeast to one, which now has double amount of bubbles!!

thinks that some of the ingredients are little shop soiled/old or not upto it on people water supply.

Had to laugh when I opened the MASSIVE packet of activator to find a half teaspoon (if that) of yeast, classic marketing.

I should have bought one of these in the first place, my Tetra Optimat system is naff, my only curiousity is how do you regulate CO2 levels with this setup? Is it a case of trial and error with the mix or is there an easier way that I am not thinking of? I think I'll bite the bullet and get one of these Nutrafin systems, seems a much better option overall for my 15 gallon.

Worth their weight in gold these are for any planted tanks, all my plants have boosted in colour and size :D

From what I have read on this forums, slight changes to the amount of water, sugar and yeast will help, I was get slight yeast into my tank. But lowered water and half a teaspoon to the mix and now dont get into system.

Annoying thing is a mate at work gave me his unused Nutrafin system 2 days after I bought mine, so i have connected both together to 1 x ladder and lowered the amounts and it appears to be a regular flow of bubbles, with both canisters on the hood they really only work when the light are on and heat is being used to warm up canisters.

I also added 1 x check valve (one way valve) to one of the canisters, as I found out that the newest canister was pushing it gas into the older canister rather than both going into the defuser. I change one mixture on the Wednesday and the other on the Sunday which gives me a constant regulated co2 supply.

Can someone please post up the 24hr test method again for checking what the Co2 levels are ?

Hi,

Is the yeast you use in this home brew system the dried granular yeast that may be purchased in ASDA/Tesco?

secondly, is this unit ok for a uk 12g tank, or would the Terta Optimat/Sera CO2-start systems be more appropriate?

thanks

My tank is 15gallon. The Nutrafin ladder is quite clever, basically you can alter the height on the ladder at which the bubbles enter the ladder: the higher up the ladder they enter the less time they are in contact with the water, so the less CO2 they add to the aquarium, for larger tanks simply move the height down. There are three settings, and the manual for the kit suggests which height is suitable for what size of tank. You'll only truely know what works for you if you actually measure CO2 levels though.

brought my nutrafin yesterday and set it all up as per instructions still havent seen a bubble yet unless i squeeze the tube ????

need to get myself a thermomter as i guessed the water temp  so thinking that mite have a reason to do with it it says u cant use tank water why is that ??? think i mite use the diy method on here instead of the sachets :good:

Well, I'm getting 2bpm, stock sachets and no added anything else. I followed instructions to the letter: granulated white sugar to first level, add sachets, add luke warm water (20-30c) and stir. Mine was bubbling within 2 hours, bubbles are now getting 2/3 up the ladder before getting stuck, better than originally when the bubbles were getting stuck straight away!

Edit: today I'm getting one bubble every 5 seconds or less, quite remarkable, almost mesmorising to watch them go zig-zag up the ladder! None get stuck now.

How do people find their pH affected during the change of ingredients with this setup? I am guessing it is only a day-ish before CO2 is back to the levels before the new ingredients but is the CO2 level drop a concern in respect to pH and livestock?
