just got in after being out all day, when i left this morning my lil fella seemed to be fine, sleeping on his rock....i rang my boyfriend at lunchtime when he came home from work and asked him to feed him, asked what he was doing...sleeping, and came in this evening and he was sleeping, so i thought something was wrong. After putting my finger on the tank he got up and swam about, his tail fins seem clamped together and his anal fin seems a bit clamped.

he can still get about the tank quite quick when being fed and when you give him attention, but his fins are definately stuck together....

please help I dont know if adding melafix is the right thing to do...or should I add bacteria control meds?

Thanks guys!

oh, my stats are fine and he doesnt seem breathless.... but there is definate clampage... what should i do?

ok, it seems nobody knows :S so ill dose with melafix tonight and see how he is tomorrow. thanks

oooh aquarium salt? i dont have any..... any recommendations of a type of salt and ill get some int he morning first thing.

ill get some water ready.

THANK YOU xxx

Just aquarium salt...don't use anything else. Make sure your water is conditioned properly (treated and right temp).

actually you could also use coarse sea salt (fine salt has additives to make it free flowing) just check the ingredients to make sure its 100% salt

just a quick update for those interested,

I did a water change with salt, and have been treating with melafix. Lil fella is still lively but his fins are still clamped together, it doesnt seem to be bothering him much but hopefully theyll unclamp?

Gonna keep up the melafix and change water again at the end of the week and Ill let you know how hes getting on, so far though so good!

Hi
Yeh agree with melafix and aquarium salt. It can take quite a long time for the fins to get better so dont expect results any time soon. One of ours took about a month before he looked better.

One other thing you could do is cut back on the lighting. 4 hours a day for a week or so. Oh, whats the temp? If its not already, slowly increase it to around 78/79 degrees.

if there is no external signs apart from the clamping and all states are fine then its 95% of the time bacterial, he needs treating for this, forget the salt and melafix, its the meds you need for internal bacteria

salt not sault azul

you know I love you

ya i know i cant spell,
but anyway as for internal meds in the us we have a brand called jungle, they have a internal parasite fizzy tab you just plop in the tank, easier to make sure they get the right amt, sometimes a sickly fish wont want to eat the food kind. and it cheep too under $10.00 dollars us.

he seems better in himself but his fins are still clamped at the ends, ive got some bacteria meds for him and keeping up the melafix, hes getting another water change this evening when the water is the right temp. his fish tank temp at the moment is 27 C which is about 80F I think, i did turn his heater down mid week as we had some really hot weather and ive turned it back up a little today. I worry about him while hes sleeping because hes so still and I know hes poorly.

Thanks for all your advice guys
