No Going Back Now.

Hi Seffie, i do have a small bit of news, my chromis and clownfish have now been sold to make way for my next fish. I do not believe it, I have managed to get the go ahead from mrs meldrew to add one of them, I can not wait :hyper:

Hi Buddy

 I guess I should tell you what it is, it's a nice big lionfish or two. Am I correct in saying that you have them or have kept them?

Any advice if you have?

Firm favourites there mate..only advise anyone really needs here is...

DON'T GET STUNG...IT REALLY HURTS !!!!!!

Best to buy them as young as possible to ween onto dead food or buy one you see feeding dead in your lfs...if keeping a few try to get them as close in size as possible as well
Leave them plenty of open swimming space too as this allows them to display their stunning finnage to it's best as well and the standard rules are...

1..If it fits in my mouth i'll eat it

2 if someday, it fits in my mouth when I grow...I'll eat it

3 if it doesn't fit in my mouth , I may still try to eat it

Can't wait for the pics now as they arrive...
Are you going for a volitans pavk or going to mix a few smaller species????

Thanks Buddy, I am going to go for volitans maybe two, i was going to get some real big ones but do have concerns about my regal which seems to be taking a long time to grow so I guess that i will have to get smaller specimems. whats do you feed them? do they take frozen?

I do not ever intend on getting stung be one, bee stings are bad enough, no way

If takinf rozen they will readily accept lancefish and white bait , etc..will take most "meaty" frozen foods once settled and best to feed two to three times a week..
Larger ones should be no problem if feeding on frozen already..your regal should be safe as these guys carry a nasty hit of their own from their scalpels and are actually included in the journal of venomous species..one of the only other fish in there..It is thought that they collect toxins from eating cynobacteria in the wild and store this which can be released as a body slime and enters a wound when sliced by the caudal scalpels...most in capticity aren't so toxic ..saying this one reefer over on rf had a real nasty reaction to a scalpel attack from his while trying to net him recently..but a few anti hystamines and pain killers later and he was fine..apart from the verbal abuse he got from his fellow reefers, lol

Most lfs stock frozen lance fish..failing that any fishing shop should sell white bait or sand eels which you can simply pop into the freezer til required...
Some large pterois will readily accept strips of fish as well...as this can be oily it's best to rinse it off in salt water first to cut down on the scum it can release. Also vitamin sprays will be required for this as they lose out on a lot of goodness and calcium when not getting whole fish to eat.
They will also normally accept uncooked prawns and most frozen shellfish like cockle, mussels ,etc...
