No Going Back Now.

Btw Victor, figured I'd throw this out there for you if you are having trouble still with nuisance algae/phosphates. I did end up trying the Lanthanum Chloride here and it's working very well. Algae growth has slowed BIGTIME and my corals are doing great. My only caveat with it is that it clogs up mechanical filters pretty quick :)

WOW NICE PIC!!!! POST A LINK SO I CAN OPEN IT UP BIGGER :D WANA SEE THIS IN IT FULL GLORY :D

You still injoying the marine life then???

Hadnt heard much but what a big change! defo looks nice!!!! i wana get my 6ft fish tank up and going again sooooo bad now :(

Hi all

Nice one Ski, thats great news that the Lanthanum Chloride works :good: i think i am going wait and see before i add anything to my tank, its looking a lot better over the last few days, the foxfaced fish really is proving to be a great addition it grazes all day long from the rock and the sand, i have also angeled my powerheads differently to try and elliminate any dead spots. The coral is still not really opened out yet, how long should i expect to wait?

Sorry Gary have not worked out how to post pics as a link yet

I am on the look out for cheap frags now, if anyone has any for sale or knows of a good site please let me know. I have also been thinking about what my next fish is going to be, i am thinking maybe a regal tang.

Thanks

Read all on posts love your aquascaping and the rabbit fish hope your coral gets better and good luck with everythings. Love the tank its amazing what youve done. And you brother in law.

Hi all

Thanks for the comments, the coral has still not opened up yet  and siteing it is not easy at all, i have placed it in a few different locations now and when i see it the next morning it has droupped so much it has fallen over, it has a small piece of rock attached to it but i can't seem to wedge it anywhere. I have now decided to try and place it on the sand but of course the sand is not deep enough to support it so i have trapped it in between two pieces of rock (not to tightly) i am now going to leave it alone no matter what and see what happens. any tips on replacing it at a later stage would be great.

One more question, how do i get the LR to go purple all over?

Thanks

You might want to get some marine putty (normally sold in two sticks you mix together to make a putty which can be used to stick corals to rocks and sets hard after a few hours underwater). Most LFS that supply marine stuff will have it and always worth keeping some around. I would agree to just leaving it alone for awhile and see how it does. They can take a few days to settle.

With regards to getting purple rocks :) Coraline algae will grow in by itself in time but it does take awhile to get going. Good water conditions (good levels Calc and mag, no ammonia, etc) and decent lighting will help (think of it as a coral). Also apprently if you get some rock with a good covering of coraline and scrape it off into a powered and put it into the tank it helps to spread it quicker (I have no idea if this is true or not but have more than one person tell me about it).

Dont be tempted to use things like "purple up" which claim to make it grow faster. They most likely do work but they are mainly mag/calc additives which should be carefully monitored when adding them (and if you do want to increases these there are much cheaper ways of doing it).

Thanks Barney, that some good advice, i will look in to getting some of that putty, i am getting a more powerfull powerhead soon, so i would have to get the flow set up better before i start fixing coral's to the rock. I wonder if anyone else has powdered coraline to spread it, interesting :good:

Thanks

i had a coral that didnt fully open for weeks and it survived. Softies are really hardy. Probably just needs time to settle in. Its a new tank aswel so the water inst goin to be that stable

I am completely jealous of your tank! I am a beginner, right now my boyfriend and I have a ten gallon freshwater tank with a variety of small fish in it. but of course every time we go to the aquarium store all i want is a saltwater aquarium! i am excited to continue watching the process of your tank and i am looking forward to see what new fish you are able to add also!

Abby :good:

Hi Abby, i also started with a small freshwater set-up and to be honest was far from an expert, in fact it was a very basic tank, its great to hear your enjoying the journal :good: Keeping saltwater fish is really not as hard as i expected, mostly due to the help i have recieved from members on this forum, its an enjoyable test.

Thanks

Ok so i have had a bit of free time to take some pics with my camara phone, might as well share them, one day i will buy a decent camara, but it will not be any time soon, not with how much this hobby costs  i have done my best, here is my coral, it seems to be making an effort now but still looks a little lazy

I will get a pic of this fish with the lights out soon, it completely changes colour to match the rock, its fantastic.

Thanks
