Nix's 20 Gallon Nano

They like lots of algae...Mine died because he wouldnt eat =(. I think i read somewhere that they need atleast a 30gallon for one and 55gallon+for more.

Hm... O.k maybe no lawnmower then. (dang)

So I'm thinking 10 blue legged hermits, (they are small as heck), or is that too many?

In addition I have another question.

I don't know a lot about marine snails, but do they breed like crazy the way freshwater snails do?

But o.k, 2 clowns, 10 hermits, handful of snails, and a few little gobies w/ 20 pounds of live rock.

oh (edit)

I can get one of these locally, Half Black Angelfish possibility if I don't do clowns?

I'v heard one hermit per five gallons so if that's right only 4. Can't say for sure though.

Some people would go with the angel, some wouldn't.

If you give the tank plenty of time to mature, stock lightly and are willing to run the risk of any corals getting nipped, then I'd say go for it.

i have a lawnmower in my 20gal, when big enough he will be moved on.
But he is fine, in such a small space he cant help but eat some brine.
I also put Nori in there everyday for him, its a dryed sea weed.
I am having no problems! just thought i would add

I bought 2.7 pounds of LR today to start me out....

They do breed themselves but the young rarely survive.

Agreed, I've seen my turbo snails spawn plenty of times, seen plenty tiny snails... but never any medium sized ones :/

Hm, thats interesting. I wonder what contributes to such a high mortality rate..

but anyway, I think I'm going to buy some more rock later this week, and eventually get a nice big 'center' piece and stack the small ones all around.

But a question, Amphipods are supposed to be in large numbers in an aquarium correct, well is there anything I can do to help intise them to breed more, such as food? Anything?

The key is somewhere they can avoid being eaten as they are the preferrered food of... just about everything!

This is one of the main reasons that people have refugiums.

Looks great Nix. Love all the life you got buzzing around on your rock. Hope my rock starts showing a little more life than it is already. Only have a few patches of algae..... Maybe I got some bad rock from the store... idk, we'll just have to wait and see!

But enough about me, like I said, Looks good!! :good:

I didn't really want put a huge investment down at first, just in case I did something wrong, and I lose 120 dollars, so these are like my test pieces if you will.. (make sure it can support life, lol)

But check this out, I've got a couple of these growing on 1 of the live rocks, I guess its a pod?, but it only has two arm type thingies.

I saw a little thing too, I think it was a flatworm, but it was really fast kinda shaped like a rolly pulley bug, but real small, really really small.
