Hi all. I have recently got back from a holiday from my house near a freshwater river. The stones thee are beautiful and i decided to bring a few large ones home for my tropical tank. I put them in earlier today and just then ive tested my stats.

PH - 7.0
Nitrate - 10
Nitrite - 0
Amonia - 0

Just the other week i tested and had virtually 0 nitrates. Are the stones poisoning my tank. The were washed thoroughly , im just worried for my fish. If someone could please post a reply. Thanks guys!!

2 - Silverdollars
2 - shovelnose
5 - blackwidow tetra
3 - goldfish

As far as I am aware NitrAte of 10 is fine it's when it's over 50 then you start getting concerned. As far as I know NitrAtes don't harm the fish, unless it's very high, it's the Ammonia and NitrItes that poison your fish.

I'm not sure you should be getting reading of 0 NitrAtes have you tested your tap water?

Nitrates of 10 are fine - nothing to worry about.

Nitrate test kits are notoriously unreliable - even the good ones. They are fine at detecting trands and will let you know if your readings are very high, but results can vary for tests on the same water, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks alot for your replies guys. I tested my tap water and it read 10 also. Ill test again in a few dayz see how we go. Thanks again. :good:
