Not the normal Nitrate questions im happy to say.

Chating to a friend whos fairly up on discus i asked what that strange plant floating in your tank? It a Pothos he said. Now i use Pothos in my poison frog tanks as there fast growing and provided good cover and know fast they are house plants. When i asked how long he had it in the tank he said 2 years and and started of as cutting, the main reason was Pothos is a massive Nitrate remover. A quick google and found some storys of the same so thought i would try it.

My 350L take 7-10days after a 50% water change to hit 40-50ppm Nitrate with the same stock and feeding habbits. I added a cut of Pothos approx 4 inches after water change and tested again the same time after with sailferts kit and it was 20-25ppm. Now thats a fair reduction, i did each test 3 times and at at the same time of day to try keep things fair, about as accurate as we can get with home kits but far from Scientific :good:

currenyly im keeping an eye on the Pothos as its not an aquatic plant but it looks to being doing well and has planty more shoots due to the light and Nitrate intake.
If anyone wants to try it be aware that rotting plant matter in your tank will cause problems and you sould have a decent testing kit :good:

A Quick update on this i have left the tank 21 days without a water change for this test and nitrates are 15ppm have done the test 3 times and bang on each time, looking good for the plant :good:

Pics? I need something like this! My nitrates are through the roof thanks to my awful tap water!

Nothing really to show it a cutting of about 4 inch now floating in the tank, google can show a pic it prob the common house pant in the world

There supposed to be poisonous though arnt they?

Toxic only if ingested in lare quantities to pets and humans, my fish are fine at the moment as are my friends but ofc use at your risk :good:
