hi there all,

im having a big nitrate problem my corals seem a bit down and i tested everyhting

ammonia is ok nitrite ok and ph is fine when i tested nitrate i got a reading of almost 75 and it should be 5-10 ?

how can i rapidly solve this ? water changes 50% ?

i have bron algae in the tank but not much its no probem at all and have a few places with green algae but my corals arnt happy..

can one grow ur own chaeto algae ? i cant find a place that have in store ??

How about getting some chaeto off ebay, I just purchased some myself today from there!

As far as the nitrates you must have a hish level of nutrients in the water. Several small (10-15%) water changes daily/every-other-day should do the trick to help lower the levels, a 50% water change in one go may stress your corals and lifestock out abit! -_- You could also get yourself a some activated carbon along with a phosphate remover, they might also help lower nitrates!

Good luck with it all! :good:

thanks, i live in south africa and ebay doesnt deliver here...

did the water change about 20 % tonight and my anemone and fish and shrooms look alot better already, water is much clearer, cleaned of all the browm algae and found a dead turbo snail, canister filter pipes was clean casue it was brown brown and its actually green added an internal filter for a day or to with a sponge to catch debri, not running activated carbon at the moment used myxazin for white spot and have 2 days left for treatment..

thanks for help..will try and get phosphate remover over the weekend i only have activated charcoal at the moment and not any carbon more, is there really a diffrencce?
