WHAT ARE THESE SPIKES AND WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE ??? CAN ANYONE SHOW ME A PIC ... IM STILL CYCLING BTW

To spike means to suddenly raise to VERY HIGH levels.

So use you Nitrite and Nitrate TEST KITS to find out what your levels are.

Use the color chart to see if its spiking or not. =]

High Nitrite WILL KILL your fish and cause great suffering =[

In a newly established aquarium, you will first see a spike in your ammonia. Thereafter it will break down to nitrite, which is less toxic. Eventually the nitrogen cycle will be complete whence the presence of elevated Nitrate exists. These harmless Nitrates can be easily removed with periodic water changes.

ahhhhh so how do i test this

Go to your nearest fish shop and ask for a test kit for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph. I use the interpet water kit. Simply follow the instuctions that come with the kit. You will get a piece of card with colour charts on it.
