Nip my 7" green severum Male is digging a little area for himself. He is fighting his reflection too. He likes to pick up sand, swims up, then spits it out so it falls down. I have never seen him act like this. What do you guys think he is doing? I'm thinking he wants to mate. He seems to have taken over one corner of the tank. The other fish are not going near him. He is acting like a daddy cichlid guarding eggs. I have another severum in the tank but he is a young male. My EBJD keeps swimming around Nip to see what he is doing.

Cichlids are so weird.

My 8" red spot Harry has done the same, he has 1/3 of the tank which he has completely moved all the gravel from and piled it high to the front glass and stays in his area not letting anyone else near it  He just sits there swishing his belly over the clean bottom bit

Could be trying to Hybridise with something, like Star4's Rotkeil did with her Convict.

Or could be just claiming a territory.

My convict x severum has dug a pit also, there must be something in the air, he is frantically wagging at Vinny the red spot  Oh I hope they dont breed, ugly fry that would be.

Naw Hybrids can be amazing, check the EBJDxJag in the hybrid section :p

Could produce a smaller Red Spot Sev :p

My angels just spawned again they are in love again. Maybe it's the new water or because we moved. I would like to get Nip a mate he must be feeling lonely. Maybe sell my red spot severum and uarus for a female severums hummmm......

that fish in my sig is a Hoplarchus psittacus "True Parrot Cichlid" I have a feeling it's a female. How cool would a severum parrot be haha.

Mines been doing the same all week, protecting the little (presumed female) one from everything else in the tank.
