Each night I feed the fish and the trumpet snails make a pilgrimage to the surface, then back again a couple hours later
Any ideas why? Most of the time they're on/under the substrate. This only occurs at feeding time.

Try dropping your water level .Maybe there looking to buid orlay eggs .
It seems years ago they would lay eggs on glass just at water line.

Not Trumpet snails hun, they give birth to live young.

Just odd how they do it at feeding time. If i feed at 8pm they do it then, if I don't feed til midnight then they make the trip at midnight...

Aww - you think they're going up to get the food?
Silly snails - they should eat the sinking wafers and catfish pellets instead :fun:

 Mine do the same. They make their way to the top then realise the food is down the bottom and race back down again shortly afterwards. Silly things

Exactly the same behavior in my tank.

They're smart enough to know where the food comes from, they just haven't really thought it through. :)

Well, now I'm going to have to wait until they get to the top, after I feed tonight and then sprinkle some crushed flake round the very edges for them - 18" (vertical!) is a long trip for a snail LOL - oh and back again...
