I am pretty new to the idea of fuges. I know the basic idea, but what do people usually put in it? I got a fuge for my birthday yesterday, so.........yeah. What do people usually put in it, and where do you get it?

thanx

Try a bit of mineral mud.. add some macro algae and a bit of livrock/rubble. this will craete a nice living environment for pods etc as well as help with nutrient extraction.

I recommend a detritivore kit. Inland sells them: ipsf.com or the one I have used tho I don't have a fuge is from a guy named Rob Sullivan, search on "detritivore" on ebay.

Also recommend the CMAS club in Chicago, monthly meetings (next is Jan 15). People will be happy to bring you some sand and some macroalgae to get you started.

Would help to know your tank dimensions, equipment, inhabitants, etc....

yup he's got it. LS and LR and some Macroalgae, with a light between 5k-7k for it grow. Also is safe haven for pods, that are beneficial and if u have a mandrin a fuge is a must.

I forgot to mention also INland Aquatics as a source. They have a website too.

I got the CPR 19 1/4" x 4 1/2" x 12" on my 20 gallon long. the fuge came with a Rio 400 pump and I got a flourescent strip light(17 watts). I have 2(125GPH and 174 GPH) other PH's and a power filter(125 GPH, Penguin). no fish yet, but I do have 6 little hermit crabs and 5 astrae snails. I have about 35 pounds of live rock in the tank and I am going to get some LR rubble soon.
---the CMAS club, do they have a web site? where do they meet?

thanks all,
DanioDude

CMAS forum on reefcentral.com is where to go. The CMAS website is pretty stagnant. Meetings are at Schaumburg Library. www.cmas.net does have directions/etc.

One good reason to get a CPR fuge is that they are a flat out sweet looking piece of equipment....for all you Tim Allen folk out there... :D :D

The pod site I am considering is here for comparison sake.
