Newbie Question

Hi everyone

got my first siamese fighting fish on sunday - amazing looking thing

is it normal for them to spend most of their time resting on leaves/gravel?

Is he just getting used to his new environment or do I have a sick fish? Seems to look healthy - perhaps he is just very lazy?

What size tank is he in, what are the water stats e.g ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, are their any other tank mates is their any openings in the hood so air can get into the tank so it can get oxygen, whats the temp of the water, can you post a pic of it?

I have that plant in my betta's tank too -although I trimmed a few stems off it as it's only a 2.5g tank. Nice lookin fish you got there.

his fin on the top of his body always seems a bit limp compared to some of the fish ive seen on these boards - initially i wondered if this was health related - he continued to be very active today - not his usual self - chilling out sat on leaves

My veiltails' top fins are longer and heavy than the shorter varieties so they never go up as impressively. Also, they just do that when they're flaring. I just got a new guy and it took him 3 days to eat and 4 days to flare(even with provoked with a mirror) so give him some time and he might start showing off to you. He's lovely, by the way

update for y'all

He is doing great at the moment - much more active now and his fins seem to have gained colour and condition - he's a healthy looking beastie

only problem Ive had is that he killed a weak tank mate - bit its tail off!!!

it kinda went into shock and died! (it had whitespot and didnt look as if it was gonna make it)

he's fine around the rest of the fish

the one he killed was a small tetra fish that im not sure of the name
