Hello my name is Karen from Toronto and I just got a Betta fighting fish and having a bit of trouble and desperately need some help- he won't eat! So hopefully all you nice folk can help me!

Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets he ate them the first few days and loved them, then i put him in a 1/2 gallon and let the tap water sit as well as put bowl conditioner and he was fine for a day and then this started happening.. should i move him back to the hextagon cup thing

hmmm, maybe he's just adjusting. is there anything else in the 1/2 gallon with him? like plants and a hidely hole (bettas do get stressed out, like any other fish, and need plants and a place to hide to feel safe). give him a few more days. i rearranged my bettas tanks last night, took out the ugfs since they weren't helping and kept causing the food to get caught in the current and sent straight to the gravel where they couldn't get at it, and it really stressed out my bigger betta, so when i went ot feed him this moring, instead of coming up the front like he usually does, he flared once and pouted behind a plant. he just needs to adjust. that MIGHT be the case with your betta too.

well there is a plastic plant cuz i heard that the real ones cause pollution and 2 shells .... i dont have any of the stuff you have, no filter no heater nothing

for a betta, a filter and heater are not absolute musts. granted, if the temp of the room you have them in is less than say 70 degrees F, you might want to get a small heater or turn up the heat a little in the room. as long as you do a 25-50% water change on its bowl/tank/cup every week, and use water conditioner, you'll be fine.
real plants don't cause pollution, in fact they help to keep the water cleaner and safer. maybe get him another little plant or two (look for the fabric ones htough, because some of the plastic ones are cheaply made and have rough sharp edges that his fins can snag on, one way to tell is to rub pantyhose against the plant, if it snags or catchs, so will the bettas fins. i know 1/2 gal is a bit small to put much in, but a few more plants would be nice. :)

Hi Kare4u and welcome to the forum :hi:

I hope your betta is doing better now. If he's still not eating, try giving him live or frozen bloodworms. They usually like them. :D
