Hi Guys

Hope you are all well.

Im looking at venturing into owning tropical fish and was wondering what sort of tank to start off with.

Ive been looking at the Rekord 70 or 80 system... are these any good??

Any help greatly appreciated

Dan

My personal opinion is that any 24"x12"x15" all glass aquarium with an undergravel filter run by a half decent air pump (recommend clearseal pumps for small applications) and a hundred watt heater thermostat is a good start point. Try looking in the local papers you are bound to find most of this set up for around 20 quid (with only a few things to add) and for a first tank i dont think you can beat it.
Hope this helps.

TBH whatever your room can acomodate(wife/partner permitting of course) larger tanks can be a bit daunting to a n00b but are alot more forgiving on mistakes and belive it or not require a litte less maintainence. My current is 36x18x15 not to big not to small but easily maintainable IMO.

Get the biggest size you can afford and can fit in your house.

I would also stay away from ungravel filters as they are old tech. You can do alot better with a HOB or Canister filter. imho

I've got the Rekord 70; it's fine. Suitable for a nice little community of moderately sized fish.

The general concensus seems to be the biggest that my money will buy (also space and Girlfriend permitting!!)....

Im gonna go and have a little look round my lfs today to see what would be best for me... thanks for the advice guys
