Newbie Hello! Pics Included!

No, do not even think about trying to flush live (or dead, for that matter) fish!

You could ask around your LFS (local fish shops) as some of them will take in unwanted fish; many have big display tanks for that purpose. Or advertise it as 'free to good home' on Gumtree/Freecycle/Craiglist/whatever's active in your area; or on Aquarist Classified.

ill get around the shops tomorrow then!

HMM ,,, is that the fish in the right side of the first two pictures??

Your plec is it the yellow and black stripped fish ??

Its HUGE Buddy. And please don`t call any fish poop machines guys, sounds sick and blows confidence of many newbies. Under-gravel filters work amazing for plecs, in case the local fish shop doesn`t take it now hold on to it until you find an experienced buyer on TFF you will get many looking forward for that colour. :good:

hey yes its that one he is big

I spy...
Black widow tetra
Xray tetra
Silver tip tetra
Columbian tetra (I think)
Male and female guppies
Rosy tetra
Possibly a Rummynose tetra
Possibly a red eye tetra but it doesn't seem to have the black band

And yes I'd say it's overstocked, but not actually that massively (except for the plec). Cause most of the tetras are small bodied tetras and I doubt any guppy fry are making it to adulthood.

You have good eyes, thanks at least now i know what i have! Yea im trying to find a home for the plec

I don't know if I got them all, n I guess it's not too important but figured it might help in you advertising them for rehoming. :)

Also you 'might' be ok with the bacteria. Depending on how thoroughly you cleaned the filter the bacteria do build up a biolfilm which will have offered them some protection. Also the level of chlorine varies depending on which part of the country you're in. Best bet is definitely to get your water tested like fluttermoth said.

yup ill get the water tested then, thanks so much for your help!

plecs now gone the bloke i bought it off has just collected him!

Good - common plecs have managed to reach 24" before now! Don't let that throw you though, it's a pretty common mistake (see what I did there? ;))

If you can afford it, buy something like the API Master Test Kit for aquariums. My LFS sells them for £20 a pop but you get a good supply of everything you need for about 10 weeks (if you were to test the water every day).

Agree with everything you said, except plecos are poop machines - whatever subspecies you get. There's just no way around it... :p
