New To Fish Keeping, My Big Journal

ive just been looking now and the internal is that close to the glass i cant the any knife down?

There is another option:

You could use the internal like a little weir - leave the heater in there and put the original rio pump back in - you could then put some lr rubble in there and rowaphos :good:

i like that idea. just leave out all the filters?

yes, take all the filters out and put the lr in a bag so you can pull it out for cleaning the bottom each time you change the water :good: When you do change the water - pour some of the new water in to the box to give it a good clean as well :fun:

There are channels at the back that collect Detritus though, usually leading to Nitrate and Phosphate issues  I used a craft knife blade for my cut out and scrape :good:

just had a thought, i got a koroalia nano that i was going to use for mixing water. what about if i put this inside the internal (now i have take out all the filters) and direct the flow on to some lr rumble? then just take it out when i want it for mixing?

What i meant, was use the rio pump that originaly came with the tank - it sucks up water from the box and then pumps it out the hole at the front of the box - if you haven't got that pump they are cheap to buy from aquacadabra :good:

Rabbut, I never had any problems with my 180 juwel collecting debris in the box - just ensured i flushed it with water every time i chnaged the water - but people have different experieinces - i like the idea of keeping the lr rubble, rowophos and heater all tucked away :good:

I wouldnt worry to much about it collecting detris. If its not collected there it will end up somewhere else in your tank anyway so better to have it all in one spot where you can get to it to remove it :)

i've got a problem! my live rock comes tomorrow and my ro unit has had to be sent back due to a fault, what can i do?

You may be able to buy salted water from your LFS, check them out then it will just need re-heating :good:

I sorted it, just went to fish shop and got enough to half fill tank. im going to get the rest now. ive got to say. im really impressed with the lr, it looks amazing!

oh i had a suggestion from someone how doesnt know anything about fish, but i thought i was a good idea. what about putting my protein skimmer inside the internal, ive checked it out and it just fits.

 ive just took the collect cup off for the first time, and it almost took my head off! hahaha

That's what I would do :good:

yer i've done this now, and it looks really smart. I had a problem with the pump not sucking to the plastic on the inernal very well im ive sorted that with tie wraps. the smikker is work okay ( a little noise ) I'm just letting it settle in for 24 hours.
I've got my lr where i want it almost, but i haven't used any aquascape until im sure. i'll proble do that tonight.

So once i've done that i just need to put my substrate, and let the cycle do its thing. Is this right?
Does is the protein skimmer okay to be on while it is cycling? and what should i do about lights? 12hr days or somthing different?

Im not sure on the salinity results. On the refractometer it's setting are at 20C, what does this mean if the temperaure of the water is 24C? also what is the idle temperature while cycling?

When the tank is cycling, you keep it at the usual temperature, between 24 and 26c (67-69ish in old money) :good:

Does your refractometer have Automatic Temperature Correction build in? If not, you'll have to calibrate it from calibration solution at the tank's temperature :good: If the refractometer has ATC you can calibrate it at room temperature if you allow it 30 seconds or so to adjust for you
