Im new to the betta fish. I got a ref halfmoon betta today, really beautiful looking. Could you guys give me any heads ups i need to know, or any tips? Hes in a small vase right now but i will soon put him in a big vase with plants and a few other small fish, thanks :)

Bettas are great fish to have.

They like floating plants, weak water currents or better yet none. Better to feed them frozen foods than freeze dried, their stomach is the size of their eye, dont overfeed. Feeding them peas at least once a week will be good for their health.

If you have a male betta you cant add them with another male betta neither with female bettas. Theyre quite aggressive so its kinda hard to find them tankmates. I personally wont put them in any tank smaller than 5 gallon but there are lots that have successfully kept them in much smaller tanks. Thats all I can think of right now....Good Luck!

I sudjest not having a betta in a vase cus it might need a filter to collect waist. I used to have a betta in bowl and he died of finrot then I got another betta in a 5 gallon tank and he seems to be happy and the tank was $60 at petco. Live plants r great. Don't overfeed and be careful about the type of fish u choose to live in there...

Congratulations!! They ARE uber beautiful, aren't they? Note that Bettas are relatively hearty and low-maintenance, when compared to most other species of tropical fish. Having originated from warm waters of Thailand and other Southeastern countries, Bettas known to thrive in water with temperatures above 75-degrees F. While you can house them in a Betta fish tankbowl or a vase, a single Betta fish can live happily in a bowl as long as it is properly maintained and cleaned regularly. Also note that Bettas have a special organ that allows them to breathe air directly from the surface of the water, which is why it's important that they always have access to the surface of the water. Hope any of this helps! Good luck!!! :good:

Hello and welcome to the betta community! Everyone loves bettas, but some people dont do research! As soon as possible get him into a 5 - 10 gallon Bigger the better :). Get him lots of leaves, NEVER EVER PLASTIC!!!! It will cut up your bettas fins, get a ajustabke filter, keep it on the lowest setting and feed ever 2-3 days! Have fun keeping your new buddie!

Fed a male splenden five large bloodworm and he was fine; I really don't think their stomach is the size of their eye.
Well bloodworms tend to compact, but yes i do agree there stomache is A lot bigger

Feed them like that everyday and they will get constipated. I feed my bettas finely crushed flakes every other day and bloodworms once a week. I do it like that because I had a veiltail get constipated to the point that he looked like he had dropsy and lost the ability to sink.
