New to bettas - Food question?

Hikari Bio Gold is literally like gold dust in the UK it seems. I've tried all over the place and everyone says that their suppliers are out of stock. So my little guy is eating frozen bloodworms, which he took to right away. I'll get him something else later for variety's sake.

So long as it is free of detergents and oil...and is small enough to fit in your tank...I don't see why it would work any differently then mine lol.
Have you ever think of putting the plate or bowl first in the tank before you feed them? It might just drop into the bowl. :p

I don't quite understand what you mean  .

I put the bowl in with the tongs every night, and then remove it after the fish have eaten.

I use the Turkey Baster...so the bloodworms don't float all over the place and get into the gravel...it's a long way from the top of the tank to the bottom..with fish darting every which a way trying to grab falling peices of food..they tend to scatter it.

My english must be pretty bad.
Anyway, I just said that maybe put a plate inside the bottom tank first. Then you feed your fish on the top. If uneaten bloodworms, they will land on the plate. Just a stupid thought. You already mentioned that the fishs scatter the worms everywhere so you still need a turkey baster to suck them back up to the plate. :p

Hi M3ntalist

It depends on where in the Uk you live. My favourite local fish store is a place called 'Chiltern Aquatics', which is just off junction 12 of the M1 in Bedfordshire, in a village called Harlington. They always stock BioGold, but the three male bettas I have now don't like it as much as my first one did. They prefer frozen mosquito larva. :/

yeah i managed to get some of the bio gold for bettas and they seem to like it considering theyve just been switched from flakes i can't say there complaining!!!

My bettas don't like mosquito larvae. They love live blackworm from california and hikari bloodworm. :D
 Huh? I though mosquito larvae is bloodworm. That's what it says on the packet anyway!

I bought some live bloodworms not sure what to do with them, obviously I wont be able to feed all of these, maybe I should freeze them ?

I have visions of someone drinking a coke with a bloodworm ice cube

lol make sure you put them in a bowl with a lid and LABLE it  .

I buy mine in a small flat packet, it's just one thin sheet of them. I take a knife and cut about a 1/4 at a time into little 1/2" cubes and then put them in freezer bags. That way I can put pull out 2 or 3 little cubes at a time. I have 12 fish to feed, and those three cubes are more then enough lol.

Frozen BloodWorms are mosquito larvea.

But there is also another type worm (used in tackle shops) that is called a Blood Worm as well....they are much longer/bigger though, and come in 2 sizes (regular ..which is still pretty long...and an even bigger version.), and they are of a salt water variety.

I haven't, but I have seen them pictured for feeding betta fry live worms, so I don't know why it wouldn't work.
