Hi M3ntalist,

Congrats. I'm sure you'll enjoy the company of your betta. Did you check with the store about the type of food that they feed their bettas? It may be a good idea to feed your betta something that it is used to.

Some bettas take a few days to get themselves acquainted to new environment and may choose not to eat. So, be patient and keep trying but don't forget to remove the food if it's not consumed.

My bettas love pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms and live brine shrimps.

:)

Nice tank :D Well if you just brought him home try feeding him in about 12 hours?I heard they don`t eat for about that long when you take them home

Hi!

Bettas generally don't eat within one to two days of being brought home from the store. You could try some frozen or live bloodworms. I use freeze-dried but it may hurt your betta. Some bettas just don't like certain foods. Just let him get used to his new tank. He is probably wary of eating at the moment. Experiment with different foods. My betta even tries to eat algae wafers that I put in for my CAE's once in awhile.

I love the color of your betta by the way. So pretty.

Hope this helped!

Hi, yeah I waited say 24 hours before feeding a few of these 'betta flake' thingys
I will get some different types of dried food for him

Once I have some other fish I will buy some live food to share out !

Im sure he would appreciate the live food. I know mine did. They love mosuito larvae!

My bettas don't like mosquito larvae. They love live blackworm from california and hikari bloodworm. :D

Does anywhere in the UK sell bio-gold? One place I did try and it was out of stock !!

I probably will not get to go to the fish place this week either

Just a tid bit I learned to so you don't have to vac out the tank to get old food you can use a turkey baster for the small betta tank works like a charm. Sorry if Im the only one who didn't know that.

This may sound silly, but this is what I do to save myself the trouble of having to clean up uneaten (yeah right like there is any left..of course I mean the ones that fall between the crevices lol) frozen bloodworms from the gravel in my community tank.

I have a pair of long handle salad tongs (the good kind..stainless steel)... a clear, glass, oblong, Pyrex dish... and a turkey baster.

I lower the Pyrex dish into the tank with the tongs...then suck the thawed bloodworms into the turkey baster, then gently squirt them into the Pyrex dish (yeah, don't just squirt them in all willy nilly lol  ). This way...everyone can come in and get dinner and there is no mess in the gravel (well except poop you know..but that's a different ballgame ;)).

Then after you are done...you just lift the dish out with the tongs, Rinse and repeat lol.

Works pretty good IMO. :D

Yep..it's only about 2" tall and about 5" long. (it's a a brownie pan). It's clear so they can see the bloodworms in there..and they just come on over and gobble up their dinner.

So long as it is free of detergents and oil...and is small enough to fit in your tank...I don't see why it would work any differently then mine lol.
