New Tank

I love it too.
Just thinking about getting another tank and will copy some of your ideas.
The organised mossy menagerie looks mighty fine.

Just sit back and stare at your creation

Thanks so much for all the feedback, really nice to get!
Yeah Dave was thinking of crypts, crypt balinaise is a nice one and they are easy.
After all the moss tying the maintenance is easy a bit of clipping and water changes, .
Here are a few pics of the inhabitants.

Corin, I got the shrimps from Aquatic Design Centre and Wholesale Tropicals in London. There are many species now available in online shops. Cherries are probably the easiest, if they are happy and there isn’t anything to eat the babies they breed faster than guppies.

Tropicman, here is a pic of a zebra ottos, I have five in the fish tank, they do the same job as other otto species, are a little bigger and just look nicer.

Also a pic of a ghost shrimp on flame moss, a very nice moss that grows vertically.

And some chrystal reds eating their greens

:kewlpics: those pictures are fantastic, ive always been fasanated with shrimps. i have a few zebra ottos too and they add a little color to any tank.i love the picture of the ghost shrimp. its yellowy glow and creaping along the moss makes it look so cool.

OMG I'm so envious of your shrimp. How much did you pay for your crystal reds if you dont mind me asking?I'm not doing so well, my rainbow shrimps do great but of the 12 cherrys I got the other day I lost about 5 after the first day.The survivors are just now starting to look ok but they still swim about midwater a lot and gether at the top corners of the tank.Any advise?

Glad you liked the pics, some more, I dont need much encouragement

T, the crs were £3.50 each, I got ten five of which were female in five months they have increased to over 200 in just a five gallon tank, value for money or what! They are my favourite shrimp. Gosh sorry about the cherries, I take it they are that tank from your journal. All I know is that a well-cycled tank is the most important; the only other thing I am aware of is possibly copper in plant ferts, its something to watch out for. I guess if the water is very different from the water they came from that may be the problem. I usually acclimatise shrimp for a couple of hours with the lights off. Its normal for them to be a bit frantic when they go in a new tank swimming about, if they are not settled in 24 hours its about something else in the water. Hope the five survive if you have a male and female you will soon have enough of them.

A bit off topic for the planted forum, some more pic this time an adult and baby cherry. Vampire/Cameroon shrimp feeding and another filter shrimp similar to wood shrimp trade name is lacee.

An update,
I had almost forgotten the lace plant bulb it did nothing for a few weeks before the first little leaves appeared, now its growing fast, I never grew one before as I had read that they were difficult but so far so good. I have a few spots of BGA I get it in every tank, so far its not been a problem so I havent done a blackout. Lots of water changes seem to keep it under control. Soon the moss will need trimming, I dont like trimming after getting plants to grow I am always reluctant to prune. I have used no ferts, the light is the tank light with 24 watts extra for three hours a day, I am using Co2 for the acid loving shrimp and its helping some of the harder to grow mosses. I still have a little hornwort which gets chopped in half once a week just in case of any major algae.

Thats a lovely little tank :) I like the way it looks like the lace plant is in its own living 'box' of moss walls, looks really cool, like its some jewel in a display box, really nice :)

Sam

PS - can you tell I like it ;)

I love that tank. The mosses and shrimp combination is great and something I want to acheive in the future.
It must be a great place for your shrimp to live and they look like they're thriving.

Well done
