For Christmas this morning I received a Juwel Rekord 800 from my parents, I am very, very happy. :D It is full with sand (still cloudy from the sand)and all seemed to be going well. But recently i noticed that the water is still very cold (too cold) and I wondered why. The heater IS working because when I take it out of its holder in the filter it is warm but the tank is still cold. :/ It isn't much of a problem at the moment because I have no fish or plants. Currently the heater is just hanging in the open water because I wondered if it was lack of current past it that was the problem. Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong, I have followed the instructions to the letter. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Tom.

Did you check the thermometer? It'll tell you if your heater is working. If it's not working, I would take the heater back. It's also possible that it takes a while for the tank to heat up.

I don't have a thermometer  . I may get one. I did wonder if it was just taking ages but it has now been a day (Pretty much). If it isn't alright in a couple of days i will take it back. There is a two year guarantee on the tank so it wouldn't cost anything. :good:
Thanks,
Tom.

How long has it been running? Like in hours? You should invest in a thermometer. They are like 2 bucks. You could also try using a regular one and sticking the end in the tank. It'll take an accurate reading.

If the water in teh tank was cold to begin with it will take ages to heat up. Wait till tomorrrow, if water still cold then definitely take heater back -can't risk heater failing when fish are in

yep.

Leave it till tomorrow Spec..

it just needs time :good: Dont mess with it either you'll just slow down the process

my tanks water FEELS cold but its 77 degrees, but it took a very long time to warm up, just wait it out and get a thermometer.

Yep! :good: thermonmeters are essentual.

Why?

If the tank gets too hot you will Know and can do something about it.
If its too cold you can turn the heater up.

If Not
if the tank gets too hot you may boil the fish to death
If its too cold fish may thrive and wont be so active

Thanks for the replies guys, i will definitely be getting a thermometer now. :good:

Don't be tempted to buy a digital one. Waste of money. You have to calibrate them, and they cost a lot more. For what? Being able to tell the temperature, which is easily done with a normal thermometer.

In a tank that size, a 150W heater should be able to move the temperature a degree C every hour. A heater smaller than that is too small. As Mr130 said, water can feel quite cool even at 25C.

Um, the heater is only 100w, it came with the tank

I wouldn't touch a Juwel heater with a 10 foot barge pole, I've been through 3 and they've all boiled my fish, all of them 100 watt heaters. Get yourself a Fluval E series when you can, because you won't regret it!

Give it a day or so and see if it heats up, using a thermometer.
