hiya all, just joined the forum and desperate to get the following question answered.
I`ve just ordered a juwel vision 260 tank and cabinet and i`m planning on using sand instead of coral etc, i`ve had various tanks in the past but none as big as this. the question is. . . Will my floorboards take the weight (i guess 40 stone or more) i`m using the same location as ive kept my other tanks it`s up against the wall to my next door neighbours running across the joists and floorboards on top of laminate flooring all floorboards etc are in excellent condition and are the old style heavy duty ones (not the cheap new ones hahar) your opinions would be gratefully accepted thanks.

It would be safer to try and put it on top of as many joists as possible

Do you know which way the joists run and are you down stairs? That size tank should bridge 2-3 joist which should be fine, especially against a wall.

If you reckon on 40 stone why don't you recruit 3-4 friendly mates to stand on a board (the same size as the cabinet's footprint) in the position you wish to place your tank. A gentle bounce up and down may give you an indication and perhaps a bit more confidence. I have a 155ltr and a 28ltr (alongside each other) with the usual sand and rocks. It is upstairs in a timber framed house  All seems ok thus far (6 months) No cracks or sagging detected :shifty:

alright mate thanks for the advice, nice pictures ! the tank should rest on 3 joists and its down stairs just clearing any doubts i have before it arrives later on in the week cheers

I'm in the U.S. and I'm a contractor so I should be able to help but I just want to make sure of a few things. Is the Jewel 260 260 liters? If so, that's around 70 gallons US. Depending on your stand, your entire set up could weigh as much as 700 pounds. It should be around 4' long... 3.3 meters.

The thing you would want to do is have the tank parallel with a load bearing wall. Are you on a first floor, second floor or ??? A load bearing wall is an extra sturdy wall where the floor joists sit on top of the load bearing wall. Your tank would then be sitting on top of 3-4 floor joists right where they are sitting on top of the load bearing wall support. If you are in a raised house on the first floor, most of the outside walls would be sturdy enough but you would be even better if you looked under the house to see how the joists run and set the tank up where it is perpendicular to the joists at the ends of the joists where they sit on top of main supports.
