New Tank Possibly

been offered a tank by a guy at work he has seen it himself for a while as it has been in a mates garage for a few year comes with 2 pumps and undergravel filter and stand hood with lighting he think that the size was 48" x 24" x 24" but he cant remember does this sound like an ok tank or will it be hard to light due to the depth only gonna be keeping easy corals mushrooms polyps and xenia leathers and such nothing to drastic opinions please he only wants £50 for the lot will check it all out first and see your opinions before i buy it

Good size tank 4ft x 2ft x 2ft = 120 usgals youll have a lot of stocking choices (pretty much anything)

i think a tank that size, plus 2 pumps, and stand, (undergravle filter is useless IMO, for marine tanks), and the hood and lighting might be good or will probably have to be replaced, but still for 50 (im in the us, but i've read that soem fish cost more then 50) is a good deal IMHO, but i dont know what £50 is in us dollars, and if your talking inches or cm

sorry yeah it is in inches work out on calculator here it is about 120 usg google currency convertor and it comes out at 71 usd think im gonna check it out through before i buy if there is a leak i can always repair with silicon i will prob put a durso overflow system in the corner so will be drilling so will be a while before it is all setup and then i can transfer all my rock and stuff to new tank

71 usd is probably those 2 pumps them selves, or the stand, thats really cheap...

its basicly a free tank, a tank that size would cost about 500 usd, 2nd hand

i would definitely get it, just make sure you test the tank

For easy softies, it won't be an issue at all to light. A few HO T5's (3-4) on individual reflectors would be suffice. Mushrooms and Zoas tend to be able to grow under very little light If you want to open up all coral options though, look for a second hand pendant with two 150W or better still, two 250W halides. This is just for the eventuallity that you move onto more light-loving stuff, as you most likely will sooner or later

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, proceed directly to picking up that tank . That's a STEAL at that price. The tank alone is probably clear over 200GBP

Second had though, round my way it could be got new for about £250, so the asking price is about right for the tank only in good used contition. Add the equipment, and you have a good deal. (I base my £250 estimate on what it cost for me to build one at that size for someone else...)

i think im gona go for it have the juwel rekord 120 at the mo and it looks **** it is too thin thie rock on ly just fits in and there isnt much swim room for the fishes would i be ok with just the live rock i have now and then a external fluval filter with live rock and nitrate and phosphate media in it and some cheato in the sump would this be ok for my filter i have about 18-19kg of rock in it

In a 4X2X2 with a sump, I wouldn't bother with a canister. If I did run one, it wouldn't be a Fluval. Apparently salt water leaves saltcreap across the carpet if it isn't removed fast and Fluvals have a habit of leaking that gets compounded if you run them on a saltwater tank. Saltwater is more corrosive than freshwater and makes their very poor seals fail even sooner than normal...

43KG of live rock is the least ammount I'd put in if you are going to get corals Cheato should do the job of phosphate and nitrate removal
