New Tank - Cycling

Hi, I am new here, reading a few topics and getting some good advice.

Bought a new tank at the weekend, freshwater tropical, at the moment, I am dechlorinating the water, and want to start fishless cycling.

I have seem bottles in the LFS that are supposed to kick start the process by introducing bacteria.

Would this be recommended or should I go out and try to find a bottle of ammonia and do it that way.

Also, what master testing kit would you all recommend?

edit: oh the tank is a 150L with an Aquamanta 300 external filter.

The bacteria in a bottle are pretty much a waste of time, so yea you need ammonia and do a proper fishless cycle I use the API Master kit, its pretty acurate and good value for money.

The cycle start bottle you have bought has no scientific reason why it should work, but saying that, chuck it in anyway, it wont harm things.

100& go & find ammonia as all bacteria need food & oxygen, as do all life forms in one way or another. this is why we dont think the cycle in a bottle can work, theya are in a sealed container so no oxegen, the bacteria would perish within days without food, but are in a warehouse for months, then in your lfs for weeks before introduction into the tank.

I would recomend an API master test kit.

answer this?....how can LIVE bacteria live in a bottle on a nice warm shop shelf??? exactly...it can't!
i ordered Jeyes Household Ammonia from the net...9.5%
oh and i aslo recommend the API Master testing kit x

Quick Q though, I already have the water up to 25'c, is this a good place to start?

put it upto 30c for the cycle then bring it back down before you add any fish
