New Super Delta

Sounds good for keeping the bettas in but you wouldn't be able to breed in it. When breeding the water level is only 5-6" and the bottom on the spawning tank is bare. Also you'd need holes in the dividers and the fry are soooooo tiny, they would probably fit through and get gobbled up!!!!

Gotta re think my plan a little bit. would be ideal for housing 6 betta's just need to sort out some kind of breeding tank arrangement, i could maybe make some kind of acrylic tanks for them, what kidna of size would i be looking about, would 24" x 8" x 8" (l x h x w)

It definately would be great for housing your Bettas. I would say you would need a minimum of 10gals. It doesn't have to be anything fancy as long as it's water tight. We picked up a few old tanks from people that were going to throw them out and we use them for spawning in. Also bear in mind that if you end up with 100 fry you'll need a grow out tank too or another 10gal so you can split them up. I know quite a few members have found tanks at their local tips or you could try freecycle.

thing is a 48 x 15 x 12 tank brand new is only £30 around here so thats not too bad, even if i have tobuy 2 for the adults and 2 for the fry, im quite handy so constructing some kind of breeding tub would be easy for me. they would be made to be only 8" tall because i keep and breed reptiles i dont have much space for these, maybe a 4ft gap so i will be constructing some kind of racking system for the tanks to go on out of steel tubing.

so on my shopping list i now have;

4 x 48" x 15" x 12" tanks
1 x 96" x 48" perspex for the divides
8 x filters (i am gonna do 1 filter each side of the tanks on a low current to circulate the water around the tubs)
and more importantly 6 female betta's and 5 more males. (need to pick a few females up asap, as we have another tnak coming next week anyways that is divided already :D

That sounds great.....I know there is always a problem with space. We have a reptile room too but so far the fish haven't invaded their space (yet) lol Also you can never have enough airline, tweezers, syringes and pipettes. It's amazing how quickly they seem to disappear lol

If you need some females, we still have some available from our last dragon spawn. Let me know if you're interested. 2 are still on the website stock page and 3 are waiting to go on.

lol the reptiles have got a 20' x 12' space these will jsut take up one corner of it lol. ill take a look at yours that are available, would they be ok to go with our super delta? i dont know much about their genetics, im clued up on royal python genetics though lol

They would be fine with a super delta. The only thing would be whether you want the dragon scaling coming out in your fry. Also with any spawn you will get throwbacks from previous generations. This spawn threw out a few PKs, which was quite unexpected. Also colour wise we got a real mix including platinum, red, black, gold, yellow.

I love Royal Pythons. I got the book The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley for Xmas. I have a normal female and a lesser platinum male who is gorgeous.

yeh we're not taking it lightly, ive bred plenty of species of fish in the past from discus - gourami's so ive had a fair bit of experience. i think betta's respesent a very different experience.

Well its very rewarding and there are plenty of people on here happy to help Netty helped me a lot and now thanks to her I can give advice to others! I have about 16 tanks in my room at the moment with Fry 2 buckets of brine shrimp and a pile of dried food oh and of course 4 tanks with adults in!
Hey Tilly, do you heat your room to get your fry tanks to temp lol? Tried that and couldn't stand the heat of 28* all day long :crazy:

Few pics from last night, hes fine now, and is out all the time up and down his tank. we're hoping the hairgrass will take and make a carpet in the foreground, also got some java moss attached and growing onto the bogwood which will look cool in a coupla of months, and provide hiding places for the shrimps and there fry.
