New Red-Tail Shark

Hi , I added a red-tail shark to my tank yesterday he seems quite happy and stays around the bottom sucking at things but don't go to the top so don't seem to be getting any food ! Will he start going to the top to feed or just scavenge around the bottom ? I also have 8 danios and 8 tiger barbs in there

That's typical - had mine about 4 years now and he still scavenges the majority of his food from the bottom. Is your red tail a juvenile? Mine was friendly with other fish to begin with then gradually became more, shall we say, 'selective' about the company he liked to keep.

He's about 2 and a half inches long and seems to keeping him self to him self so far sucking up and down the plant leaves and tree roots ! The barbs nipped his tail a few times when he first went in but that has toatly stopped now ! How old would you say he is a 2 and a half inches long ? How big is urs and 4 years ?

Mines about a year old, and he certainly eats from all levels of the tank! He also loveesssss algae wafers.

When I got my RTBS I was also slightly worried about feeding for the first few weeks, but once he settled in he started to go get his own food and would only appear at feeding times! Miss that fish, was nice.

I'd guess your red tail is approx 6 months old, maybe less. My RTBS is 5 inches - he reached that size in his 2nd year. Good luck with yours, hopefully he'll stay friendly with the other fish
