New Pic's Of My 125g Cichlid Tank!

We changed all the substrate in one of our tanks and found the easiest way was to siphon it out. after we filled a bucket, we used a sieve for the substrate and poured the water back into the tank. It is quite time consuming but probably one of the easiest ways of doing it.
To put the new substrate in we use a long, thick tube and held it near the bottom of the tank. Pour your sand/gravel down the tube and it shouldn't cloud the water too much.
Hope that helps!

Oh my....Thank you Stang1. :good:
Apparently I had no idea what I was even talking about.
 We only chose this option as we wanted to cause as little stress as possible to our Plecos and we didn't want to keep them in a container while we did it. There's no reason people couldn't do it the way you suggested. :good:

Oh. Thanks. :D But I was just taking a guess anyways because that's what I do. But I have small fish.

Nice fish. Peculiar combination, but as you say, if it works for you, why change it? Keep up the good work. :good:

Thanx for the compliments and kind words:) Ive put lots of hard work into this community over the years!!

Before I make a judgment, How does it work with the africans and new worlds together? Besides the obvious differing needs in water chemistry how is the interaction between the two? Call me curious.

Interaction is unbelievable. The Dempsey always swims around with the africans as if he were one of the pack. The devil and the Black shark are clearly the alpha fish in the tank and are completly and wisley left alone, the africans just swim out of their way. The funny thing is every morning when I turn the lights on the devil and BS are always huddled togeather in this particular spot, not sure if its mutual respect or if they really like each others company lol The Severum, RTBS, and Leperinus interact with the africans like they were naturally meant to be togeather, extremly well. I have no violence at all, no nipping no biting,no chasing at all save once in a while the black shark will chase the africans if they get to close but nothing beond basically a warning bark. The last spout of violence I had was about 2 years ago, I had a melanchromis auratus challenge the devil, did not end well for the auratus. He is living now in a friends aquarium. But personality wise things really could not be any better. Minus the Auratus, i havent lost a fish to violence or disease in over 5 years:) Id be happy to answer any other questions you might have:)

Wow very interesting. :shifty:
If I say so myself that is pretty cool.
I've never really heard of those fish interacting toward each other in such a manner.
Very nice.
Keep up the good work!!

Thank you! I was able tonight to get a few shots of the severum as well as the jewel cichlid and a few more good ones of the other fish:)

Nice fish. I also keep an African (Calvus) with new worlds (Severum, Festivum, Rainbow cich.) and some NW cats and a senegal bichir. It works quite well actually because they were all tank bred in the same store, which happens to have a ph very similiar to mine (8-8.2). It may not be their natural ph but they were all born in it and do great in it.

BTW have you seen any aggression from that Lep? I've seen em before and always thought they were great looking and interesting but i've heard stories of some of them being absolute devils.

Ive heard the same thing about the leps, so far no agression at all, I got him at about an inch and a half and he's now probably 3-3.5 inches, but they max out at 12 so he still has some growing to do and with that new behavior could emerge. Ive heard that they are very tough fish, they supposidly develop teeth as well which is why I chose him for my community. I knew with a red devil, a black shark, and various africans that I couldnt just drop a molly in there that Id need something that could defend itself if needs be. So far though completly peaceful, he constantly interacts with the other fish like they were typical community fish:)

Never did get your final judgement:)

I have to say, that you have some very nice fish indeed!

I'm glad that they are all (very obviously) healthy, whilst not being a "purist" i personally wouldent make that mix, but it seems to be working for you :good:
